IT IS with great sadness that we announce the loss of one of our young apprentice players, Anton Reid.

The 16 year-old first-year youth team player collapsed and died during a training session on Monday morning at the University of Aston Training Ground.

Players and staff have been left heartbroken by this terrible tragedy.

As a mark of respect, tomorrow night's Pontin's Holidays League fixture versus Wolverhampton Wanderers has been postponed and the flags at the Banks's Stadium are flying at half-mast.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Anton's parents, family and friends at this very sad time.

My deepest sympathies go out to his family
RIP

That is very sad...

We also had a sad happening at work today, one of the contractors had a riding accident on the weekend and is in a coma with a suspected spinal fracture and severe head injuries.....I didn't know him well but seeing his empty desk all day and knowing where he is was quite sad...

Very sad indeed.

They also lost a 17 year old youth player to cancer in february of this year. :(

RIP Anton.

A good friend of mine (Walsall STH) accompanied me to Withdean on Saturday. I will give him the link to this thread sometime this week.

What a tragedy, such a young lad just embarking on his career. Condolences to his family and friends.

That is awful.

It makes us really grateful that young Wes Fogden's tumour was benign last year.

it makes you wonder , this is becoming so common nowadays - too much pressure being placed on players or what?

rest in peace but now surely someone must look into this (what is causing this) to stop it before we lose anyone else.
