Lets go for it. 3-3-4.
Peter Brezovan
Painter-Elphick-Calderon
Crofts-Nav-Dicker
Bennett-Murray-Forster-Holroyd.
FLAIR.
With those players its more a 3-5-2 formation as bennett and Holyroyd would have to suply the width.
Unfortunately that formation only seems to work on PES where the action comes through the middle and the extra CB and CM hold up most teams. the problem is that this can easily be overcome by the opposition playing the ball wide and crossing into the box or by running to the corners and passing the ball behing our defence.
4-4-2 is the most commonly used formation as it provides width to defend and attck as well as giving you players in useful positions across the pitch. we struggle to play a 4-4-2 effectively as our midfield is easy to pass through and our centre backs are more comfortable in the air than on the floor. with the 4-5-1 we reduce space for the oposition to have the ball at their feet and encourage them to cross which plays to Virgo's and Elphick's strengths.
Our squad, although not on the same ability, has the same limitations as Man Utd's. no left midfielder and 2 CB's who are very good in the air. the 4-5-1 lends itself to teams who can sit back when not in possesion and allows them to break quickly and score on the counter attack. However when a team comes to defend they often opt for a 4-4-2 formation as they don't get the option to counter quickly so them maximise their time on the ball.
I think we should follow suit and use the 4-4-2 against teams who come to 'park the bus' especially if they only play 1 up front. so Tranmere would be one of those teams
