The post-Watford doom and gloom seems a long time ago now.

Since then, we've
* won all three games
* signed Ulloa
* drawn Arsenal at home in the cup and have more or less sold out already

The vibe is now twice as good as it was bad after Watford.

And amusingly, it is LOVELY to see the opposite happening at Chelsea isn't it? Losing to noddy local teams like QPR, one win in 6 at home, hated Spanish waiter in charge, Guardiola moving to Bayern. 4-5,000 empty seats at Chelsea last night. Very amusing.

It certainly was doomy for a reason.

So glad the storm clouds seem to be lifting, although they could easily have rolled back in, last Saturday.

I think it says more about how stupid a lot of football fans / people are. It's a 46 game season, and I never understand why people get so down and dejected about losing a couple of games. And guess what, we'll go through another bad patch soon and all the morons will be out again saying how terrible we are and how Gus has taken us as far as he can etc. And then they'll all shut up when we get good again.

Very true. If Derby had equalised, it would have crushed morale amongst a lot of our fans, if not the team. But it didn't happen, and we're sitting pretty with the missing piece of the jigsaw* successfully signed up.

*I hope.

I wasn't on eof the doom and gloom merchants after Watford but you can see why people were. We looked completely exposed to being pressed and to pace. We're a good team but still feel like a work in progress and I don't expect Watford to be the last team to stick three past us. Having said that, I still expect us to get to the play-offs.

I'm very much in agreement to this. It is unbelievably fickle.

I think "expect" is overestimating our chances.

1 Cardiff 27 19 57
2 Hull 27 8 49
--------------
3 Leicester 27 25 47
4 Crystal Palace 27 15 47
5 Middlesbrough 27 9 47
6 Watford 26 12 43
--------------
7 Millwall 27 4 41
8 Brighton 26 10 40

Of that lot, the only team I can say with any confidence that we are going to finish above is Millwall. That said, we could as easily finish second as sixth, so obviously lots still to play for.

I know what you mean Simster but I see Middlesborough and Palace imploding second half and I think Millwall have done as well as they can. If we improve a few percent, we'll be comfortably in the play-offs. The Litmus - I guess - will be the games we play against those above us in the next few weeks. If we beat Hull for example, that might show we have gone up a notch.

Spot on. I think some people seem happier (if that's the word) when they're miserable. It a symptom of the "Twitter-era" that people's opinions change almost hourly. Personally, I was dejected after the Watford game, but it was because we played seriously badly, not because I felt the club was in reverse/Gus has taken as far as he can etc etc. I get dejected when we lose because I care but its because I care that it's easy to look past the odd poor performance to the bigger picture which is still very rosy!

The teams mojo is definitely returning, at the right time.

Another vote for how excellent this post is...The Stupidity if football fans never ceases to amaze me.

Also, if I remember it rightly it was exactly the same last season too. We lost to bottom-of-the-table Coventry just after Chrimstmas and everyone was crapping themselves at how many Southampton were going to stuff by on New Years Day...Well, we done them 3-0 and then went on an unbeaten league run that stretched into the middle of March.

Fans need to stop wetting themsleves when we have a wobble.

Albion & England forever.

Tremendous post. Couldn't agree more. Good thread. Short sentences. Are my thing. Today. Clearly.

Says more about the binary nature of NSC posters opinions than anything else. Well a few people anyway - there's so many sheep on here who seem incapable of thinking for themselves.

I can't believe how that fool Steve Bruce has got Hull up to second place.
