The UK life expectancy is 81 for females and 76 for males.

So that makes middle aged if your a woman 40 and a man 38.

life expectancy for males is now 77 and female 81, however the main reason males is lower is the disproportion number of males who die 50-65 compared with females mainly through heart attacks. Men who survive to age 65 have a life expectancy of 82.

It's also just a state of mind isn't it? One of my nephews is 15 and he acts middle-aged all the time. And I know plenty of folks in the 45-60 age range with more energy than people half their age.

Age is what you make of it. I shall continue being young for as long as I feel up to it.

the guy in the office with me is 58 and has more life than most 20 somethings I have met, he is always out drinking, smoking and fornicating and he looks fine and dandy on it.

So on that basis, if you are a man and 37 you are young, but if you are 39 you are old ? Doesn't quite work, does it ?

I am about to turn 34 and certainly do not consider myself middle aged (although rather alarmingly I appear to be loosing interest in any new music). I think 40-65 can be deemed middle aged, although it might be worth bouncing this thread in 6 years time to see if I still agree....

its not all bad , some blokes get better looking as they get older and they have the life experiences and bed techniques that would put to shame the young blades like Chapman and Uncle Buck, I expect to be rogueishly handsome and irresistable by the age of 50.
