Following on from the Brewery Tap thread about the demise of the British boozer, how often do you go to the pub?
I used to be a regular in my local - 2 to 3 times a week - but at £3.20 a pint, and following the arrival of my baby daugter, I don't bother anymore and haven't been there for ages.

We did go to another pub for dinner for my birthday the other week, and for what I was charged for a glass of wine I could have bought a decent enough bottle from my local shop. It just feels like being ripped off, to be honest.

I'd hate to see anymore pubs shut, but the breweries / pub chains seem to be commiting commercial suicide, don't they?

Bought 15 cans of Stella Artois for £7.99 at Sainsburys last Friday, id be lucky to get two and a half pints for that in a pub.

This - only time I go to a pub nowadays is if I'm having a meal there.

I voted twice a week as have a few in the golf club house after my matches on Saturday and Sunday, wouldn’t class the clubhouse as a public as it’s more up market.

Don’t drink in pubs unless I’m watching the Albion as it’s to dear.

I do not go to a pub as I cannot afford the prices but then I do not buy alcohol to drink at home because it doesnt have the right feel and ambience as drinking in a pub. I go to the club that my son plays football for once a week for darts matches and if it is home match I can afford to go back on a Saturday night for the music or quiz or whatever. If it is an away match at a pub I have to miss the Saturday.

Most Fridays when I get back from London, probably about 3 in 4 Saturdays and the same Sunday afternoons. Rarely drink Mon-Thurs at all (Albion football nights excepted) as I have to get up so sodding early for work

I only go to a pub for a function/ band / meal etc. never go to a pub for the sole purpose of drinking

Every Monday evening our running club meet at a different pub. We meet in the car park 7.30 pm & set off at 7.40 pm prompt. Always back by 9.00pm.

9 months of the year it is pitch black & we are the only cross country running club in town. Brighton Hash Harriers. Check us out on the web.

Nearly every Monday pm we are the only ones in the pub.
The landlords love us! 30 of us drinking & eating is a nice little earner.

Go to the local Country Club on Fridays, they don't really do pubs here, but there is cheap pool and sensible priced beer as well as grub.
Closes at midnight then it's take out time and back to a house with a few fellow muso's to keep the neighbours awake:thumbsup:

Just worked out that a pint in my local at 6.40 dollars is equal to 3.82 pounds:eek:
So not so reasonable priced beer after all:facepalm:

How soon is now?

The Hangleton Manor is my local and its got to be one of the most un-welcoming places. The food's ok, but the table service is shite and the manager when I last went in was so unhelpful a mate of mine nearly walloped him. Its only redeeming feature is a decent garden when the weather is good.

the breweries and Govt. tax especially etc are to blame.

Central London is now approaching 4 quid a pint as standard.
That ain't acceptable. How much is tax and profit? Ooooh a huge
amount.

The pubs deserve to go under and so do the Govt. I feel for the
people working in them -

Abort, retry, fail
Once or twice a week. Maximum - closer to once a week.

However, I am more likely to go to a clubhouse (London Scottish or a local Hockey Team) than an actual pub. Tend to go out for Sunday lunch twice/three times a month.

I voted for "just every now and then" we used to go to the local pretty much every evening after work, it was reasonably affordable, it most definatly is not now.

Yesterday we bought 24 cans of Carling Black Label for £16 the cans are just short of a pint (440ml) and works out at around 65p a can and when the offers are on they get even cheaper!!

I do feel sorry for the pub trade, and if I had been asked this question a few years ago, I would never have dreamed of staying in and having a beer, but the situation makes it happen, don't get me wrong, I would prefer to go to the pub.
