How much money should I spend on a decent suit?

However much you spend on your work suits make sure you don't skimp on the dry cleaning, there is nothing worse than a smartly dressed manager who smells like a tramp.

Surely the correct answer is as much as you can afford

I recommend going to Reiss - about £350. If not Marks & Spencers do have some great suits in their larger stores for a couple of hundred.

I paid bang on £350 for a suit from Austin Reed, dark grey and a fairly classical design that won't be out of style in a couple of years time. Before going there I went to a couple of other places and have to say that most I tried on just looked cheap and shoddy, despite not costing much less than I finally paid...which isn't the sort of image you want to present if you turn up for a meeting trying to look your best. Round it off with a nice shirt and tie, make sure the sleeves are long enough so some cuff is showing from the jacket.

Tesco's £ 40, most mortgage advisors get their suits there nowadays.

depending on your build there were some rather nice kennth cole suits in house of fraser a year or so ago. They come up pretty small though -designed for the tall and skinny type

Make sure you get your shirts and ties from either TM Lewin or Thomas Pink. Probably Lewin.

Austin Reed are pretty good and I got a couple there recently in their buy one get one half price. Ended up being allowed to include the sale items so I got two £350.00 suits for £350.00. Top stuff too.

General tip - avoid anything that follows fashion - Jack Dee might look good on stage in a shiny suit, but give it six months and you will look like a chump.

You can't generally go wrong with one grey, one black (pin stripes optional - thin not fat banker ones...) and one dark blue.
