I need to get a new PC for home and my mate's parents are getting rid of theirs.

I don't quite know how much to offer. Any help on a rough price would be appreciated.

Haven't seen it yet, but these are the basic specs:

Sony 2.6 ghz, 120Gb HDD, flat screen, 512Mb RAM, DVD writer.
It's about a year old.

:)

I'd go along with that. Try comparing with a new Dell (www.dell.co.uk). Sony's are well made but are frankly overpriced as new. You could also have a look at eBay to get an idea (from the bids) of the value of the machine.

Probably about £400. A quick look at the Mesh website and you can get a new Pc with these specs for £499:

AMD Sempron 3300+ Processor
Microsoft® Windows® XP Home
512MB DDR400 Memory
160GB Serial ATA HDD
52x CD-RW/16x DVD (Combo)
Direct 2D/3D Onboard Graphics
17" TFT Flat Panel Monitor

2nd hand PC of that spec - £250-£300 depending on the bits and pieces that TGC points out.

Then sell it to Dave for his £500 (!) and you'll be laughing.

I know people would pay £300. I wouldn't though.
