I boycotted them and went to bed at 11.40 pm. Totally inappropriate in the present climate. £ 4 000 000 spunked away in 10 minutes. You could have opened a new Hospital with that.

No you couldn't.

Totally appropriate in the present climate, £4 million is nothing in the grand scheme of things, good on them for doing something to make the country look good for a change.

Come on Unc, it wasn't a total waste of money. At least people got a good show for the money spent. Not like spending hundreds of thousands on a players wage that never plays. Now that's a waste of money.

Can see both sides really. But IMHO there should always be a time and place and budget set aside for a wee bit of harmless feelgood fun. Christ knows we pay enough taxes all year round that go straight in the pockets of shysters of one sort or another.

Only bit that alarmed me first time I watched the vid was the countdown clock at the 55 second mark - the first image of the whole thing - looked for all the world like a swastika

What ever it cost it was money well spent as it would have bought thousands into London who all would have spent a few bob, speculate to accumulate.

Also it was just as good as Sydney, fantastic display.

Agreed, fantastic display I am sure our returning, traumatised soldiers watching from their damp ridden barracks really enjoyed watching that and made them proud to be back in blighty, while the minister of defence had a great view from the balcony of the MOD.

£4.000,000.00, paid for by the tax payer of London on behalf of the Lord Mayor of London, income raised on the day/night well in excess of that figure creating much needed revenue, did you not notice how many people interviewed on TV were not from this country but were tourists
