I thought i would get in before Harty rattles on the radio about how few are turning up at games these games......Has it occured to him how life in general has changed and more and more people have to do shift work....

Just wondered how many supporters have to do shift work and don't have regular 9-5 , mon-fri jobs.
Esepecially with so many hospitals, hotels , airports etc in Sussex all of which would close down if everybody had Saturday's off....

Would Harty be down the Withdean if Crem's decided to open on week-ends ?

I work at Heathrow and would love to have every staurday off to watch the mighty albion .....unfornately they dont pay my bills. So i can only go home/away when my shift allow me.

Any thoughts ??

Same problem I've had all my working life and thats why i'll never be a season ticket holder.

Appreciate what your saying re shifts but can you just advise whether Hospital, Airports and Hotels are a new phenonema?

I would suggest that low crowds are due to the following:-

Attraction - do we play exciting attacking football. Not for the last 3/4 years. We used to virtually fill Withdean before the additional seating and who knows what crowds we would have got during Adams first reign if we had had a proper stadium then (capacity wise that is, not nice toilets etc.)

Alternatives - There are far more alternatives that people get involved with including wall to wall tv.

Accessibility - In the old days you could just turn up and pay on the gate. Appreciate that this could mean you get your head kicked in due to the terrace free for all but planning ahead must put some people off (especially if you're going to get wet).

As for price, don't genuinely believe this is the main issue. Yes it would be pricey for a family to go ad hoc but if the team are playing attractive football, a lot more fairweather fans would cough up. People moan because they fork out a lot for not much entertainment.

Just my opinions you understand.

Can you not link up with someone else so that you can buy your season ticket, (works out at about £18 a game then) and flog the tickets when you can't go either at cost or with a couple of quid profit.

Not sure if it's possible but did hear of a guy a few years ago (worked for Ecovert I believe) who bought a season ticket just for Leeds game (guess who he supported). Apparently, he sold the tickets for the rest of the games to colleagues at the commercial rate thus making a profit for the year. At today's prices, he would make a profit of £130!!!! Of course, that was when it was difficult to get a ticket at Withdean so you might have to drop your price a bit!!

I see what your saying but to be honest it could prove to be more hassle than it's worth.

I appreciate your points Drew...but work has changed, airports / wards are busier .

Gone are the days where you get away with a skelton shift over the week-ends....especially in my line of work...... of aviation, in the not so long ago , airlines never used to need 24hour shift coverage. They do now cause more and more flights are going out and silly times

I also believe the public are demanding that there is someone there they can talk to 24/7.

And neither do you. Not sure you ever did if you consider strolling around London with a couple of files under your arm looking for an u/w to take to lunch. I say lunch, probably stretch it to an afternoon!!!!!!!!!
