Well, a forerunner of NSC was used to spread the word about fans united in 97.
The giant flag was organised through NSC
Brighton reached the top of playforyourclub.com through NSC
Petitions and campaign events for Falmer were advertised and accelerated through NSC
NSC itself isn't influential, but fans are influential and here is the greatest congregation of fans outside the stadium, so in sense its influential, but only if we all think the same way. But everyone knows some people shout louder than others.

Well, the media will want to ask tough qquestions and aren't fans themselves so want to know what the fans want to know. They're not interested in asking the club "So, the fans think that we have some great signings and it's only a matter of time for them to settle in and start winning games, how do you respond?"
It's not interesting, probing, newsworthy. That is giving them the answers in the question.
SCR and the Argus are meant to be/want to be how the fans get answers from the board. They take out questions to them, get the answers so we can buy their paper, listen to their station and find the answer.
What sort of positive question would create this relationship?
I don't think it's any different, in essence, than hanging around outside withdean asking the fans what they thought as they leave to find out what questions to ask the club.
I think the extent of our influence is over what questions the media asks, not over the answers they get on over the actions the club takes. Especially not on its own. The club may see us as one section, of the fans and compare what they hear from us with what they see with the Argus, with home fan reaction, away fan reaction, feedback (I imagine these "insiders" who share info with regular fans they meet on the street, or friends or whatever, are also able to take opinions from people back to the club).
I don't think what little influence NSC has is particularly bad if it leads to the right questions being asked.
MM was fired because he "lost the team" (he certainly seemed to fall out with enough of them); didn't put a strong showing in, which (rightly or wrongly) is usually expected of teams that are relegated, and Knight's loyalty to him led to the fans turning on Knight, both here and at the grounds, on the phone in, away fans reportedly being the final straw.
DW was fired for non-footballing reasons (of which many have been reported). What we said, the home fans, away fans, phone in callers, etc was not relevant.

For what it's worth, I think NSC, like the 'main' forum of any club will always only have a small proportion of the overall supporter base. However, I think it's pretty clear there are, at a high level, 2 sets of fans...
1. Those who like to turn up, on a Saturday, see their 90 minutes of football and then largely walk away again until the next game comes about.
2. Those who, to a greater extent, live and breathe their club. It's part of their very fabric and to some extent or other the club has an influence on their day to day lives away from the matches themselves.
It is the second group who are far more likely to be active in many ways away from matches themselves, and that extends to internet messageboards. And, as the 'main' Albion messageboard, such people naturally gravitate towards NSC, join it and participate in discussions upon it. Additionally, of course, a whole range of complete mental cases are also drawn here.

Your second line implies that it's more the case that some people may believe that they themselves are influential, not that they believe NSC is.

I suppose, although many of them do use NSC to raise their profile among fans or to further any agenda they may have.
I have never had a criticism of NSC itself though. I think we are lucky to have such a good platform to vent our football frustrations etc. Many other clubs in our league have terrible forums.
Plus, when I was at uni, I found NSC a brilliant way to pick up tickets for when I was back.
