No-one seems to have mentioned the people of Withdean. How have they reacted to yesterday's news? Bet they are none too pleased to have the club on their doorstep for another x number of years

I have a friend whose parents live just up the road from the stadium. They were very opposed to the club moving in, but now see it as no big deal. 3-4 hours of disruption every fortnight traded off against cleaner streets. They now see all the original scare stories of gangs of hoolies roaming around causing trouble as totally overblown. I've not spoken to them since the announcement, but I would guess that they would see it as no big deal.

Let's hope the residents of Falmer have the same opportunity for this learning experience......:lolol:

I live just up the road from Withdean and the biggest moan I've heard the little withdeaners have was when the play-off final tickets went on sale and everyone DID park on the residential roads! (it was an interesting experiment to show what would happen if there was no park and ride... ;) )

Very few people round here complain nowadays. And it certainly hasn't affected house prices. There's a semi-permanent "Brighton needs Falmer" petition in the local Spar at the bottom of Eldred Avenue which is constantly added to.

Bet they are looking forward to a 22,000-seater stadium, with a coach/bus park, which will involve knocking down most of Withdean.
That's what I was thinking, not how have they reacted to the news, but how have they reacted to John Collyer reccomending the club build up Withdean, raise the cash and then go for a bigger Stadium at Shoreham Harbour in 10 years time?

i am fine thank you,

there's no way the stadium will be built here, the site is simply not big enough, it would cost LOADS to buy all the land around it

My favourite from the Little Withdeaners was that Preston Park Station on matchdays would be "the next King's Cross disaster".

Alas, they don't make 'em like that round our way anymore. One of the SWEAT leaders lives a few doors down from me is concentrating on renovating her house, which probably leaves little free time for rampant NIMBYism.

As a Withdeaner I have no problem with the Albion staying as a neighbour for ...well as long as they want. I believe my neighbours have no strong feelings against the Albion being there either, now everyones got used to it.

As a supporter however, I can see that Withdean is probably unattractive as a prospective new stadium site so the sooner we get the decision on Falmer the better.

Why not issue an abatement order on her making modifications to the front of her house as it will 'irreversibly change the character of the area' - that should hit home :)

Prescott's conditions specify a 22,000 capacity. There is no chance of that. We are struggling to get 9,000.

yes and having had the chance to get to a home game at Withdean (I live in Leeds), I can see why!! I for one would not be happy paying to sit in roofless athletics ground with no atmos! Although if I lived in Brighton I'm sure I would!!

When we get Falmer it WILL sell out !! We can then move forward and start planning Premiershite football and getting to the Bernabau!!!!
