How good must it feel to be a Swansea fan today?

Rodgers presumably didn't believe that he was genuinely in the running, and that they were simply looking for some numbers to uphold the pretence of a thorough process. In those circumstances, why rock the boat with the Swansea fans? this way, he's lost nothing, becomes an instant legend with the Swans fans, and is probably in line for a new contract offer.

Rogers turns down the chance to talk to Liverpool. Will the day ever arrive when an Albion manager will turn down a top job to stay here?
When will the day arrive that Rodgers turns down the opportunity for a top job.

If you were of a cynical persuasion. Alternatively, Rogers is happy with the work he's doing at Swansea, is enjoying it, and at this point doesn't feel the need to accept a role that isn't exactly right for him. This is Liverpool we're talking about, with American owners: anyone could be genuinely in the running!

Or genuinely preferred the job he has at Swansea rather than set his career back years by joining a disaster like Liverpool. I am still optimistic there's some loyalty left in the world of soccer!

Yep, I agree.

Most likely he felt that he was being used without any real chance of landing the job.

Put it another way then, can you imagine Gus just coming out and turning a job like that down, because I certainly can't. I would f***ing love it if an Albion manager did that, regardless of the reasoning.

After Roy Hodgson I'm not surprised they're struggling to find a replacement.

Liverpools complete scattergun approach is quite laughable. They probably believe managers are queuing up to take over that basket case of a club.

Anyone who is NOT Kenny Dalglish is going to get pelters fom the fans at the first sniff of a home draw.

No, but then Gus isn't ALREADY a Premiership manager is he? Rodgers is.

I am as pleased as the Swansea fans at this news, all the same. Swansea are a club, unlike some of the others mentionned on here, who might genuinely have looked at Gus (again), had Rodgers moved on.

I doubt Gus would turn down Birmingham or West Ham out of hand even if they stay down and both of those have the potential to be just as much poisoned chalices as Liverpool do to a Premier manager.

Liverpool bloke on the Football Weekly Extra podcast basically said:-
'I wish Dalglish was given till Christmas to properly fail, before appointing someone else'.

But he was saying it as if it were a positive.

I can well believe it.

It'd give them a chance to create another shrine somewhere at Anfield at least. I'm amazed we haven't already seen scarves being laid as it is.

I can understand that point of view to be fair.

As things stand, there are still too many deluded bindippers convincing themselves that King Kenny was doing alright. The new manager is going to have a tough job winning them over.

If they'd given KD long enough to really f*** up, and hopefully do the decent thing and walk away, then the new guy might have had an easier ride.

Problem with this is, there is no way they could trust the idiot with another warchest.

I think he almost definitely would. He has said about 53952 times now that it would take something MASSIVE for him to leave Brighton.

really respect Rodgers for this. Liverpool have a history, a few amazing players, but awful deluded fans, and owners who are hell to work for.

the expectation there makes it an unappealing job.

Liverpool's current approach has echoes of the Wolves managerial fiasco so far, which is absolutely FINE by me.

Deluding themselves if they think Jurgen Klopp would be interested though. The Jurgen Klöpp who's just won the Bundesliga for Dortmund, playing in front of some of Europe's largest home crowds, and who has Champions League football to look forward to next season? Jog on, Scousers!
