How do you feel when jobs are moved to India ?

Hove, f***ing ACTUALLY.
I'm starting to understand why people are feeling very resentful about all these jobs moving to India and the far east.

Just had a 30 minute conversation with a woman in the Accounts department at one of the UK's biggest airlines who has told me that they are moving pretty much lock stock and barrel to India, 500 or so redundancies, not just call centre, but accounts and some other bits and pieces, I was a bit gutted, not just for her, but sad really that her managers have told them that they are not allowed to complain in certain ways, as it may be considered as racism !!

I think its a great shame for people who have worked hard over the last 20 or so years to discover that your job is moved to another country for whatever reason, I am sure this thread may be hijacked by the Lefty PC brigade or the Right Wing nutters with their extreme opinions, but why is it becoming increasing difficult to vent your feelings without being in labled as someone in those extreme camps.

Not the real one
I find those call centres that have relocated to Indian sub-continent really annoying. A bad line, someone on the other end that you need to explain things 3 or 4 times to and then they get it wrong! This is nothing to do with race for all you PC twerps. Its just that it's unproffessional and the service you get from them is very poor generally. Just try calling sky with an incorrect billing enquiry. Nightmare. You have to ring after 6pm to speak to someone in Britain or its Delhi. Good to see banks moving call centres back to the UK.

Its a natural result of capitalism. Labour is cheap, work can be done electronically, so it's going to happen. Its very sad that people get laid off, but we shouldn't be so surprised when profit rules over every thing else. IMO there's no race side to it at all its simply a mattter of economics.

It's all about the bottom line. It's cheaper to employ high quality graduates etc in India and the Far East. :(

Bad news all round. Companies doing it should be taxed at such a punitive level that it's not worth it financially.

My opinion is that it may look cheaper on paper but once you look at the hidden costs of outsourcing (particuarly in IT) then the figures are not that different.

It is sad, China will soon start to take work off India as their labour costs are even cheaper - it will all balance itself out eventually.

In the meantime, I'm off to open an corner shop in Delhi

Barrel of Fun

Abort, retry, fail
I am not bothered on a personal note as I don't ever use call centres.

What frustrates me is that people are left unemployed, having said that big multinational companies could relocate altogether if cost were too high, and where would be be then. Better a small proportion of the company rather than the whole organisation.

We rely on inward investment after our coal/steel industires messed up

I grew up in a company town
And I worked real hard
'Til that company closed down
They gave my job to another man
On half my wages in some foreign land
But when I asked
How could this be any good for our economy
I was told nobody cares
So long as they make money
When they sell their shares

Can you hear us?
Are you listening?
No power without accountability
Are you listening?
No power without accountability

I lost my job, my car and my house
When 10,000 miles away
Some guy clicked on a mouse
He didn't know me, we never spoke
He didn't ask my opinion
Or canvass for my vote
I guess it's true, nobody cares
'Til those petrol bombs
Come spinning through the air
Gotta find a way to hold them to account
Before they find a way to snuff our voices out

Just received a text which says:

Raj is at Heathrow and the immigration officer says he can't enter unless he can speak the language so he must make up a sentence containing the words Green, Pink and Yellow.

So Raj says easy:

The phone goes green, green, green and I pink I will answer it and say Yellow whose there.

Them Indians should stick to making curries and owning corner shops if they know what's good for 'em.

Bad news.

Service is always poor when dealing with call centres in India. I hate dealing with call centres in general.

Yes but international capitalism creates new jobs to replace the ones gone, unless state socialism has a strangle hold on the economy................

When I had a pub in Guildford , 10 years or more ago, we had one customer who was on call for B A T if the factory in Manilla had a production problem he would have a taxi pick him up take him to Woking sort out the production line via the computer and be back in the pub within 1 hour. That is progress.

Its capatalism and will only get worse.

Our company now has all our contact centres and IT development contracted out to India because it costs a 1/10th of the price it does here. This has meant that the business I work for has gone from losing the odd million a year to a very healthy profit.

I think the big concern is where this will lead employment in 10 years time, as in reality most jobs can be done for cheaper in a developing countries.
