We are told Pompey will have to sell players to cut debt,s but how ? The Premier Lge has said no to that. Can the club now 'sack' players just to get them off the wage bill ?

I'd have thought they could pay up their contracts.

Or, given that they probably can't afford to do that, just not pay them their salary so they'd be entitled to walk away? Wouldn't get any transfer fees though I guess.

Sell the player, but they cannot move until end of season?

I read something the other day that said it is possible to sell players at any time of year, there is no window when players can be sold.

What the window relates to is the registering and playing of players that have been bought for a fee from another club.

So, Pompey could have sold players before they went into administration but the buying club would not have been able to complete the registration and play them until next season.

Well, that just shows how long they are expected to be dragging their sorry arses through administration. They clearly think they'll still be there when the window re-opens.

True, which makes them a less than attractive prospect, I'd have thought.

Why would you buy a player now that you couldn't use until August? When you could just pick him up once this season is over and save yourself three months wages.

i got the impression that once in adminstration the situation changed and club could buy from them. wathcing the press conference, on this issue it seemed that they still have to discuss with the PL. well, we know the answer there, so unless UEFA/FIFA rules permit a change for a club in administration, theres nothing to be done here.

i reckon they just refuse to pay, then the player walks. they probably will still be liable for the payment of the full contract but the player has to join the queue with everyone else.
