How did you feel right now ten years ago

As happy as I could remember being an Albion fan but as the driver I had to restrict my alcohol intake so after a couple of beers in that pub by the roundabout I was desperate to get home so I could polish of the champagne I'd left in the fridge as the starter for the piss up of the century.

I didn't disappoint myself...adrenaline, relief and loads of beer=a pretty good evening:drink: Not even the thought of us being homeless took the edge off of that evening.

Drunk and eager to get back on it. We broke down on the way home. Sadly, it happened to be outside a pub and a curry house...

Drunk - but not at the game - was at a wedding - I've told the story before about listening on a radio and jumping up in the middle of the speeches when RR scored...

Exiled from the South Country
We went out for the afternoon to try and take my mind of it.

Both my two boys were quite young and liked steam trains and things so we went to a steam fair in Flixton, G Manchester. As soon as we got there they wanted a ride on a minature Railway. When we got off my wife noticed the name of the engine - 'Seagull'. "That's a good omen" she says, reducing me to a quivering jelly of nervousness and superstition.

Then we see the most enormous traction engine you've ever seen belching smoke and blowing its whistle. Its name? 'Albion'. By now I am in a complete state and am shaking with fear and my wife has to drive home.

We got home at 16:45 and I couldn't bear to put the telly on. I went upstairs and hid under the duvet saying 'tell me when its all over'. By now I am reduced to a gibbering wreck.

Then there is a shout up the stairs "ITS A DRAW! ITS A DRAW". I run downstairs and make the nearly marriage-dooming comment "are you sure?"

Tears, shouts, chants, screaming, the lot. Later I go into St Helens to buy Champagne dressed from head to foot in Seagulls gear. Everyone looks at me as if I am utterly mad as the rest of the Town is dressed in Red and White and getting completely pissed - they are celebrating the Rugby League team winning the Challenge Cup at Wembley on the same afternoon. But as I had something to celebrate too I got on fine with those I encountered once I explained myself!

I cannot think of the day without going into a cold sweat.

What I remember of that day more than anything is hearing ALBION, ALBION, ALBION at Paddington station on getting back.

Echoeing along the platform it was (in all honestly) a spiritual experience that I will take to my grave.

I'd was actually at that game trying to keep upto date with the Brighton score via the radio. I was in the Bradford end so you can imagine the looks I got, from unhappy Bulls fans, as I jumped up and down cheering as I found out the score. I quickly got out of the stadium on the train back to Brighton and down the pub to celebrate with friends all night long.
