[Albion] How did we / Brighton do today?

Wearing Albion colours, I can't be the only one who regularly gets stopped, sometimes hours after a game, and asked how 'we' or Brighton got on.

If that person was a genuine fellow supporter or had an interest in the result, they would've taken steps to find out, rather than chancing coming in to contact with someone who had been at the game.

Happened a few times yesterday. Does anyone else get unnecessarily annoyed by this?

No, you are being over sensitive.

Many Brighton (and Hove) residents have only a passing interest in football, but a little more than a passing interest in the Albion because it's their home town club, which has been augmented by the Albion's success in recent years. Which is nice, and I struggle to feel annoyed by that.

It doesn’t annoy me, I quite like the fact that people who don’t follow football still like to know and are interested :)

I get the passing interest thing. Guess it's more the random people a long way out of area, or those who claim to be supporters and go on to ask who we were playing

Conversely, I’m frequently accosted on the way to a game, in colours, with “Hope you do well today”, to which my reply is usually “I’m not actually playing”.
Kinda condescending response to someone giving you the time of day/a pleasant comment. Assume when some asks you if you won after the game in any form you say that you didnt play

It’s sort-of a joke reply, to purposely mis-construe what someone is saying to someone in their seventies, but I know jokes are a minefield these days and I’ll try to avoid them in future so as not to give offence to someone like you.

If, like yesterday, I’m working driving the bus I have no other way of getting an instant update other than asking a suitably looking stranger “how did we get on?”

I checked my phone at Mile Oak at 16:10 but then couldn’t touch my phone by law until I got to Whitehawk at 17:15 so that means for about 25 minutes I’m in a painful limbo not knowing the score.

Luckily one of the passengers was wearing Albion colours so I asked him, he said “two all mate, could of won” but he did look unnecessarily annoyed and as he walked off he mumbled something about me not being a genuine supporter.

Sort of related, I can remember being a kid in the back of the car driving near Old Shoreham Road / Sackville Road at about 5pm on a Saturday afternoon with hords of footy fans piling out of the Goldstone.

Dad asks, "I wonder if we won?"
Mum replies, "Look at their faces, if most are smiling, we probably did."

Late 1960s before we had a car radio ....

Very true, even to this day, if we’ve won I walk out the East like Ian Brown, if we’ve lost I walk more like June Brown.

My neighbour knows I am a fan so when I run into her she normally knows the last result so we can have a conversation. The day after the Forest 7-0 game though she cheerfully asked how we got on yesterday…it was a a shorter chat than normal.

Well, you could have tried to arrive at Churchill Sq. a couple of mins 'sharp', got out of the cab and had a look....just sayin'. ;)
