Anybody who got to the game last night, i would be interested in hearing how we played.

YES, i know its hard to judge in pre season, but how did the newbies and trialists play?

For me Spiller stood out with his good work rate.

Wright was very speedy down the right wing.

Tunnicliffe and Smith were not really tested.

Spiller, Davies, Wright, COX, Murray, Whing, Lynch, Kuipers were all superb. The rest were good/average. At first glance i wouldnt sign Ricketts, and Crofts was non existent. Tunnicliffe had a tendency to let his defender go, which but for Kuipers would have resulted in a goal. Smith didnt have much to do in the half he had, so you cannot judge him yet. Kicking looked suspect, though.

All in all, a promising first pre-season :)

Spiller sounds surprisingly good but it sounds like there is a very divided opinion on Ricketts......

Lynch looked a class above last night, and being stood on the sidelines despite Virgo being captain it was Joel giving everyone orders, he looked good and relaxed on the ball and seems a much improved player. Crofts seemed quiet, and Spiller was lively but imo didnt set the world alight on the ball. Thought Wright looked very good, and Murray was a bit off the pace. Second half we looked weaker, Hawkins made one mistake being out of position from which they should have scored, but looked solid apart from that. Ricketts looked either unfit or a tad lazy, hard to tell but with Dickinson signed i doubt we need him now. The guy on the right wing (brinkhurst?) looked good and pacy 2nd half, and Ide on the left had a few promising spells.

Smith - 6 - Had nothing to do, defence were superb 1'st half.

Whing - 6 - Decent.
Virgo - 7 - Dominated in the air and controlled the defence well.
Elphick - 7 - same as Virgo.
Lynch - 8 - Calm and collective going forward was also very solid defensively.

Wright - 7 - Ran at the defenders and generally caused problems.
Spiller - 7 - I personally thought he had a very good half, good creativity from him.
Crofts - 6 - Didn't really notice him but he did put a few good tenacious tackles in.
Cox - 7 - Good performance from him, his crossing was A LOT better than last season and he looked to have a good partnership with Lynch.

Davies - 8 - Caused havoc in the defence and chased everything
Murray - 7 - Help up play well and generally added a touch of class as always.

Second half were mostly 5/6's but Ide, Dicker & Tunnicliffe get 7's from me.
