How Aussies would get in the current England side?

Got to say I`m struggling. Might have been inclined to take a punt (pardon the pun) on Ponting but who would you drop?. Until now I have always rated Shane Watson but again where does he slot in ?. A lot of comentators reckon Ryan Harris is a raw talent but I would`nt swap him for any of our bowlers right now.

Comments welcome...hope I`ve got it about right.

The problem, if you can call it that, with Watson, is that as an opener he scores fifties with fairly reasonable regularity, but rarely converts them into hundreds, so I'd probably still take Cook and Strauss.

Harris is massively injury prone, as illustrated perfectly by this Test. He's also 32 I think so it's a bit late to be called a raw talent.

Hussey in for Collingwood.
Clarke is a quality player but wouldn't know who to drop.
Haddin must be on par if not better than Prior

Hussey for Colly - yep
I'd have Clarke over Bell, there is no comparison between their test records.
Haddin just about from Prior.

Ponting is a great but very much on his way down.

You're right about that actually.
Clarke is pure quality, even though he's had a suspect series.
Ponting is one of the best players ever, no questions. But based on the past 18 months, I'd much rather have Trott.

How does anyone get Haddin over Prior? Prior is so much the better wicket keeper it's not even funny. Finally years of people sniping at him and questioning his place seems to be over. From the coverage I have seen he seems to be a huge influence on the team and a very senior player. I would think barring injuries the place is his for a good few years and when he retires he will be seen as one of the great English keeper / batsmen of all time.

Hussey is getting on a bit now, I think Johnson as we will encourage him to perform rather than bully and threaten him and Katitch.
Only as part of a 12 man squad though, I also think that Harris is one to watch for the future and Siddel was ok.

In my view Prior has barely put a foot wrong throughout this series and has cemented his place in the side for a couple of years. No way would I replace him with Haddin... The only problem with Prior in my eyes is that he finds it hard to bat defensively

Johnson is an all rounder, Hussey is an out and out batsman. Surely it would be Johnson in for Collingwood rather than Hussey. Still not sure I would do it though as Broad has the potential to be Collingwood's long term replacement.
