Everything is an acquired taste. But with GoT, I can't remember a series where they enriched every character so lavishly. Whether they be fair or foul, you truly got to see every side of them, which made you invest in them, and in some way care about them whether for the good or the bad. Some truly tremendous pantomime villains (Joffrey) with some wonderful heroes (Arya). So many story arcs, so many fascinating characters (Tyrion, Jamie, Cercei). And dominating it all, the neverending shadow over that whole series of what was coming over The Wall when "winter is coming".

A pity you bailed, there's a lot to enjoy. And even though every man and his dog slagged off the finale - I thought it was bloody good!!
I certainly can’t argue it wasn’t good. I enjoyed what I saw but I got to the point where I thought “yeah, I’ve seen what this is now and it’s not really surprising me anymore. I think I’ve seen this”

But I liked what I saw. I’d just seen enough of it .

Season 2 will have more parallel story lines than this season apparently, as the plot develops over more parts of Westeros.

That'll be a good thing as I think the strength of GOT was it jumping from story to story in different locations.

Looking forward to it. Filming starts earlier in 2023 than previously indicated, with a small chance it airs before 2024.

Yikes ... must hurry up and finish re-watching Season 1 on a decent sized screen then. Watched all but the last half-hour of Season 1 on flights between UK and Singapore / Australia last year. Tiny screen, dead awful sound quality. And had to wait for my son to be asleep next to me, hence missing the final half hour as ran out of flight time!

I read earlier that GRRM also reckons that The Winds Of Winter will be out next year - I'll believe that when I see it.

I've just finished another total rewatch of Game of Thrones. My big problem on first watch was the ( what I thought ) total dropping of the Jon Snow/Prince that was Promised prophecy in favour of a nice knife move by Arya.

But then I read the proposition that Jon Snow WAS the Prince that was Promised - who set everything up for the victory over the Night King - and Arya was in fact the sword he forged in the prophecy, Lightbringer, the Red Sword of Heros. Forged by Jon Snow ( giving Arya the sword 'needle' - stick them with the pointy end ), tempered in water ( Arya's water dance training by Syrio Forel ), the blood of a lion ( Arya's time with The Hound - a Lanister Knight), and sacrificed love ( Arya giving up her identity / family to become NoOne ). My god that is awesome - and must have come from GRRM himself.

So for me on reading that theory, season 8 is fixed.

Another thing I noticed which may be relevant to a talked about potential Jon Snow sequel.

In the final episode :

Snow : "Was it right what I did ?"
....
Tyrion: "Ask me again in 10 years"
Snow: "I don't expect we'll ever see each other again"
Tyrion: "I wouldn't be so sure"

That is surely a hook for a sequel, whether it happens or not.

I would be interested in a Jon Snow sequel series. My thoughts on House of Dragon was it that it was made by people who'd read ABOUT GoT but not bothered to read the books or watch any of the series

The whole story of HOTD is taken from GRRM's own book "Fire And Blood".

Until we get the last two books, we’ll never know. GRRM has said things will change.

The issue for me was never Arya killing the Nights King, it was how they did it. That she just walked past 1000 of them and murdered him.

And we don’t know how he is or why he does what he does.

You know nothing, Jon Snow

But it seems he does know that the JS show has now been shelved as there is no agreement on the story to tell.

On reflection, after the rewatch, I'm happy they are not attempting this. Maybe if the last 2 books are completed it might give them something to explore further, though.

I''m happy with 3+ more seasons of House of the Dragon, the 3 seasons of Knight of the Seven Kingdoms ( unless GRRM writes more...) and the much rumoured Aegon's Conquest ( which may be HOTD Season 5 ).

Just around 60 hours to wait for season 2 to start.

Season 3 commissioned, but we'll have The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 1 on screen next.

I'd love them to do something with the Blackfyre Rebellions as well, but that probably depends on GRRM doing Volume 2 of Fire & Blood first, so I won't hold my breath!

Looling forward to Episode 2 in the early hours of tomorrow.

And A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms will be broadcast sooner than I thought.

Episode 2 was immense. I loved the last part.

It seems that Episode 4 will be quiet a spectacle. Dragon v Dragon combat is fast approaching.
