Plymouth honour left-winger Foot

Foot has realised a boyhood dream
Plymouth have signed former Labour Party leader and long-standing fan Michael Foot as a 90th birthday present.
The veteran left-winger has been given a squad number of 90 after his registration as a player was formally accepted by the Football League.

"Manager Paul Sturrock was keeping tight-lipped about his unexpected swoop for Foot, and speculation is bound to centre on whether he will hand the new man his debut against Grimsby," said a statement on Plymouth.

Foot, who first stood for election in 1935, later became a minister in a series of Labour governments before leading the party for three years from 1980.

A Plymouth fan for eight decades, Foot will be formally unveiled as a player at a ceremony at the club's at Home Park stadium on Friday, a day before the side's season opener against Grimsby Town.

"We thought it would be really nice for Michael to fulfill a boyhood dream and become a player," Plymouth vice-chairman Peter Jones told the local Western Morning News newspaper.

"It's one of those gifts money just can't buy. Now, whenever Michael goes to a game this season, he will see his name on the Argyle team-sheet in the programme."

Who do u reckon will be the first team to sign up Ann Widecombe?

Also could this be the real reason behind Coppell's domino theory ???

I'm surprised that Ivor 'where's the bandwagon' Caplin hasn't been lobbying for an Albion squad number. Or does he only remember the Albion when an election is looming?
