Anyone been?
I'm going with the missus to meet her 'rents for new year and am not sure what to expect..
Got 2 and a half weeks so want to cram in as much as possible really.
If anyone could dish out any advice or tips, that'd be beautiful

I was in HK for work a few years back and ended up getting a ferry over to China, spent a few days in Zhongshan which I think was about 1hr45 on the ferry....ticked a few boxes on the places to visit list!

I'm very lucky to go there twice a year on work trips. It's just a fantastic place.

Mid-levels area is good - take the escalator up from Connaught Road. There are good restaurants up on Elgin St.

Also make sure you take the No 6 bus (not 6a or 6X) from Central Bus Station over the mountain to Stanley Market.

Go to the Kowloon esplanade at night to look across the harbour for one amazing view.

Great stuff. Enjoy!

PS. Don't take the ferry to Macau it's a shithole.

Wicked place. 2 and a half weeks is more than enough though.

From the new airport get the express train into town (leaves from a station opposite arrivals and includes a free bus to all the major hotels).
Coming home take a taxi back over the new bridges to the airport - it's cheap and as you will probably have loads of luggage it's easiest. (Agree the fee first though!)

Victoria peak via the tram at night (eat at Cafe Deco one evening but book a window table and Peak Lookout another)
Victoria Peak in the day (eat on the terrace at Pearl on the Peak)
Lan Kwai Fong,Soho for drinking at night (try Knutsford Terrace in Kowloon too)
Soho & the mid levels via the escalator
Nathan Road & the ladies' market
Aberdeen Harbour
Jumbo Restaurant
Stanley Market
Temple Street night market
take a tram from central to wanchai
lantau island and the big buddah
Disneyland
Shenzhen retail outlet (you can now get a visa on the day at Kowloon Station)
visit some of the outer islands by ferry
the star ferry
ngong ping cable car & themed village
ocean park
stanley market
happy valley on a race day
new territories
wanchai at night (if you visit some of the bars together you will be treated with respect and have a laugh - you might even get a massage!)
harbour cruise (day & night) and see the musical lights from the kowloon side

get yourself an octopus card and use the MTV and busses as much as you can for a great fun travel experience plus cabs are cheap!

If you are in a hotel the concierge will give you a card to show with the main destinations listed in English and Chinese as many locals cannot or prefer not to speak English but in shops and the markets you will have no such issues. If you are staying with the parents just pop into a hotel anyway and ask for one :)

As you can see there is loads to do. I've been going every year since 1990 and there is always more to see. I haven't got bored with it yet.

Enjoy and make sure you travel out with literally empty suitcases (except for presents for the parents). Everything you want and need in terms of clothes you can buy and much cheaper than here and anyway the shopping IS the Hong Kong experience. Avoid fake Rolex that cost more than ten quid or so (130 dollars). Don't buy electronics (not so cheap anymore) but software can be good value and is normally okay; jewellery and fake handbags etc are good. Enjoy massage and reflexology and don't visit a timeshare!

I'm there next in late January. Get there for Chinese New Year which is brilliant fun
