No, just is there more homophobia than wife beating/ husband beating, general bullying, racism etc. There are so many nasty people out there that these things will never be eradicated. My point was more that being gay is now accepted and embraced by the vast majority of people as far as I can see. Very different and uplifting from when I was young.

Of course all the above are unacceptable and despicable.

If we don't sing and abuse the opposition in any way then we'll have to find new ways to sing our own praises because "Albionnnnnnn Albionnnnn" for even 45 minutes is soon going to get tiresome.
The problem is that singing "we're so great" or "look at our lovely silky football" is all a bit too American. Someone will need to come up with something better and we already see too many crap attempts on here.
Or we need to come up with more clever ways to abuse the opposition in a nice way and without them realising.

Got called a “f***ing gay ****” outside right in front of a PC, didn’t do anything and said he was there to “keep the peace” they don’t care. The police DO NOT care that was the 4th officer, I’d spoke to. They don’t care and blame the club. Absolutely pointless organisation.

Same here and I challenged a policeman nearby to whether he heard it (unless he was stone dead he did) he denied it. I said that he was just as bad as the Leeds fan. I told him I'd clocked his badge number and would be taking it further.

Does it offend me? No, however my best friends are a gay couple of a similar age to me (55) and when they tell you the stuff they have had to suffer since the 80's if I can't stand up for them then I'm as bad.

Genuine question, I don’t get out and about around town/cities at night much these days, but is this really still a thing these days?I don’t remember the last time, other than at football matches, that I heard any comments or slurs towards gay people when I have been out and about, and there are plenty who are very upfront about being gay as far as I can see.

"We can see you holding hands" is not offensive in the slightest. Let's be honest with ourselves here. It's been sung at us for years without any bother - to which we usually replied "you're too ugly to be gay!".

I suppose it is true that they are insinuating that we are gay and it is something we should be ashamed of... but surely this is the equivilent to them singing "we are homophobes, we are homophobes!". I only see this as egg on their faces really.

Homophobia has no place in football, just like racism and any other form of discrimination. I don't think any action is needed here, as this crowd from a less affluent and less educated region of England is simply embarrassing themselves here. Over time they will learn better, I'm sure of that.

I do find the faux outrage from people on this thread a little big cringe worthy though. I think it's important to remain grounded when there is quite clearly social engineering occurring which, for whatever reason, is instructing us to be offended by more and more things every day.

Does everyone in the Leeds crowd genuinely HATE gay people? Probably not, however it does say a lot when you’re only retort to a chant is to resort to a stereotype.

I think a lot of Leeds fans are just genuinely thick, it’s not that they hate gay people they just simply don’t understand why these ‘light hearted ‘joke’ chants aren’t really a joke anymore.

I’m not offended or outraged, but I could see why a gay person in our crowd yesterday might have been.

Not really, all those things are genuinely horrendous as well, but just because they exist doesn't mean homophobic chanting should take a back seat. I don't expect people to get it, I don't expect people to agree with me, but I do sigh when I read people on here saying it doesn't affect people, it's just banter, my gay friends find it funny (I really doubt they do). I just wanted to give a perspective from someone who went through it and who is gay, that's all

Just for perspective, my black gay friends really do find it funny, they actually said 10 years ago that Brighton fans need to man up.
