How can we be so good at home and pretty much give anyone a game but away we are so poor.Gus will say we haven't got the players but there good enough at home but not away. What do people think?????

Several possible reasons, I'm sure, but likely to be a combination of factors.

  • Players really are buoyed by the home atmosphere at the amex
  • Away pitches are not the same size/shape/quality
  • Teams tend to come to the Amex in a fairly defensive formation which suits us
  • Fluke/coincidence

I suspect more than anything else, though, it's just a confidence thing.

My opinion is pretty straight forward.... When you play at home you normally get more time and space and the away sides tend to let you keep more possession and generally you get to set the pace of the game (don't forget that our pitch is huge)....

When you play away you need to set up slightly differently and not expect to have the same amount of all of the above!

Gus does, because he won't change how we play..... Against the better sides both this season and last we have been found out on occasions and when teams clamp down on us we perform like rabbits caught in headlights!

That's the simple answer, but there is obviously more to it than that!

Some of the players get travel sickness but Gus is too stubborn to let them take tablets or sit by the window on the coach.
