If you like everything english, like beer, food, tea rooms, red telephone boxes, KFC. Mcdonalds and people in union jack shorts and beer bellies then Cyprus is great, if you dont want that then go to a nice quite Greek Island.

Depends totally on where you go. We stay in Larnaca every year, and do as the locals do, and love it. We also go to the north and stay in Ozankoy or Kyrenia, both a fabulous places too.

Sadly there is a lot of development all over the island now, but when you get away form the rabble it is a stunning place, with bundles of history, lovely climate, and great scenerey. Also, it has become quite expensive, down largely to the Euro, but also in the north due to Turkish govnt removing tax free status.

Yup, vote here for Protaras also. Went a couple of years back and it was well decent. And if you've got teenage daughters you can pack 'em off for the evening to Ayia Napa which is a cheap five mile cab ride from Protaras

I went to Protaras as well. Cyrpus is great for teenagers.I screwed a Welsh bird on the beach(Fig tree bay?)If you enjoy spending massive amounts of money, shit activities or being ripped off etc then this is the place to be.As for sceenery i give 2/10.Take a scooter ride to Famagusta and see the ghost town.I enjoyed riding to the last divided city in Europe Nicosia? Great climate, locals are ok.personally wouldn't return again unless it was paid for me.

Did you go to that maHOOsive Egyption-style bar in the town ? The one with all the hiroglif..hyrogly..hira...the squirly bits on the walls ? LOVED it in there. Until there was a power cut during the Euro 2004 match between England and Switzerland, and all the TV's went off - that bar emptied quicker than Withdean when Crewes 4th went in.

I doubt then that you have been to Troodos, Omados, Polis, Karpas, Platres Stavorouni, Lapta, Gezulyurt, Aphrodite, Famagusta (the town itself), Ladies Mile, Goveners Beach, Curium, Temple of Apollo or any of the castles along the northern mountain range.

Judging by your activities on the beach, surely you are the last person to take holiday advice from if you want to know about a place for its merits as a destination, rather then whether you want to carry out private acts on a public beach.

The divided city, Nicosia (Lefkosia) is fascinating, and worth spending a day, visit the museum, cross the green line, see the churches, mosques, and the history of the place, not just the 1974 war and division, but the stuff going back thousands of years.

King Richard the Lionheart met and married his wife, Berengeria, in Cyprus. St Lazarus is buried in Cyprus (Larnaca), as is Mohammads mother (or nurse), the history of the place is fascinating. There is so much to see and learn about.

Climate is stunning, thought very hot in late July and early August.

Sadly, it is now not a cheap place to visit, though if you get into the locals taverns and bars, and buy from the village shops, you can get things for much less.

British invaders left the island with some decency hundreds of years ago, sadly the British invaders of the past 20 years have had little regard for the beauty of the place and have rather dragged it down, hence some of the negative comments on this thread.

Have dim and drunken memories of a Flintstones theme bar somewhere round there, tho thought it was in Ayia Napa. Or am I talking out of me sphinx?

There is one in both places. Although that was last year, they could just as easily be 2 of each, or none of either by this year.

No, twas in Protaras town centre. Mummies and sarcophagus type-stuff was the order of the day, a splendidly done out bar, spotlessly clean.

Although now you mention a Flintstones bar, I think I know where you mean. It was along the main road into town, had a couple of big TUSKS at the entrance, and Dino on the roof, or something.

Yup, not all of it though, but have a preference for CY, Would like to see more of Turkey, and will do so one day.

Plenty of those in Ayia Napa

Turkey beats Cyprus hands down for sceenery,History, sight seeing, value for money. Not to mention the Turks are far more nicer.Don't give me that bollocks about not having a clue. The only thing Cyprus wins on is the clubbing sceen.I went To Cyprus first and then Turkey a couple of years later.Been back to Turkey four times.I bet you don't get an 8 hour boat trip around Islands with food on board, picked up from hotel and dropped off for £6? Sorry no competition. If i was going to back to Cyprus i would try Paphos.I won't list the sights to see as we will be here all night.
