im travling to mexico next week and have been advised by the travel agent to change half our spending money into US dollars and the other half into mexican paso. but was wondering if anybody had been before? i was thinking of just changing it into USD as the price against the Pound is so high at the moment.

I spent a few months in Mexico. It depends where you are going. I flew into Cancun where USD are widely accepted then went down the yucatan. I dont recall spending anything other then peso. If it was me I'd take a bit in USD travellers cheques and the rest in Peso with maybe 50$-100$ in US currency

If I remember rightly their cash machines are a little confusing as their pin numbers have 5 digits though you press enter after 4

Use pesos. When you use dollars, you get the change in pesos, and more often than not lose out on a little bit of money - but it all adds up

Also they tend to round up dollar prices to the notes, so everything is 1, 5 or 10, even though they are not worth the amount you pay for them
