I’ve cancelled a trip we had booked for the end of May (Nassau), but most of the Islands are open now.......got one booked for end October (Antigua) that I hope will be ok. I think the US will be on the green list......good vacc programme and very keen to have a US/UK corridor. I’ll be looking at Florida or California in the new year

The big ‘obstacle’ for us is having a healthy 18 year old, who won’t be double vaxed until say the autumn.

I would seriously think twice, thrice and even more before confirming the holiday. Virtually nobody you are likely to come into contact with, waiters, barmen, car hire, taxi drivers etc., in fact nobody younger than 80 will have been vaccinated. Because of the disastrous, almost non existent vaccination programme of the Spanish government/EU it is frankly unsafe and not worth risking your health. Trust me as a 75 year old still awaiting hopefully a jab before it's too late.

You’re right I don’t know what’s been happening in peoples lives but at the moment the border should remain closed. It’s not being sanctimonious it’s being concerned that people will bring more shite back with them. Your week in foreign climates isn’t worth my health.

This was my immediate thought. If Irish bars and full English brekkies served up by some semi-retired, wrinkled old tart from Essex are what springs to mind when you think of a holiday abroad then you’re doing it all wrong.

That said, I do think foreign travel should be kept to an absolute minimum this summer, at least to countries where virus levels are high and vaccinations low. That most likely puts the kibosh on Spain.

Logically, it stands to reason that corridors (as seems to be the turn of phrase these days) might open up to select destinations as and when those factors begin to invert. At the moment, most of the nations leading the charge in terms of vaccinations are those in and around the Gulf Coast, but speaking from experience they are not great summer destinations due to the extreme heat - sunbathing in 45 degrees is not a pleasant experience for those of us used to the dank British climate.

Dorset and Cornwall for us this year (all being well), which we’ve done in the past and thoroughly enjoyed. I’m keeping some time back for the October half-term in case there’s the chance to do a week in Abu Dhabi or similar for a week, but I won’t lose sleep if it doesn’t happen. We’ll make up for hit when the time is unequivocally right.

You may want to refocus on where you're looking at traveling at the moment then.

Spain's cases are low compared to France, Germany et all. In fact, so is Portugal too. They both had their peak wave's just after we did and are now relative to ourselves:


As for Abu Dhabi, the UAE is currently on the Red Zone list so you would need to quarantine upon arrival back in the UK.

I have worked since day one of the first lockdown having a few days off between lockdowns last Sept to go to Cornwall for a few day ( it rained 2/5 days).

I have a holiday booked to Barbados that has been moved at least twice, Should have gone June last year, now due to go This June this year and its all looking good,

As of last month Barbados has vaccinated 40 percent, my wife and I have both had the first and should have the second jabs in may.

So yes I need a holiday.

If you dont like travelling then thats your choice.

We had a mini hol booked with them for May, but whilst we were given the chance to change the booking, it was not for the same period (5 days). Choices were 3 or 7. 3 too short for Canaries and 7 was too pricey. We cancelled and lost it. Kunnts. We'd have kept it as it was.

This, I'm sick of everyone's desperate obsession with getting away on holiday. We're just seeing some positive signs that this could actually be for real that we are getting out of this mess, yet so many are desperate to start jet setting all over the place and potentially starting this crap all over again. Just stay at home this year, enjoy a nice trip to Devon or something.

The points you make are fine, however I doubt that decisions about travel will be made on case volume alone but rather a combination of cases AND public vaccination levels.

Cases are currently very high in Bahrain however vaccination levels are way ahead of the EU. Fast forward a few months and I would expect to see those cases come down significantly as vaccines kick in, making these kind of small, wealthy nations viable destinations.

I think EU countries will take longer to play catch-up, therefore the typical peak summer months may just come a little too soon for them. I hope I’m wrong on that and it’s safe to travel more freely than I am predicting, however I don’t personally see it at this moment in time.

I’ve been to the South West of France every Summer for the last 16 years. I think the issue is the Uk not wanting travellers returning from France the way rates are going this year. Looking forward to a week in a holiday home on the edge of Exmoor this year instead.

Regarding France, will Macron want France to get the huge cash inflow from UK travellers, or play the tough card on vaccinated visitors only? He’ll be under huge pressure from regional leaders and the tourism industry to allow visitors. I followed their ski industry this winter just gone, he faced unbridled anger.

Rules permitting, we'll be up near Conwy in July and prior to that the Lakes.

If people need to get away, get away in the UK. Hopefully we'll be back abroad next year but I'm not sure I fancy going overseas and having to wear masks and all sorts of covid rules. It wouldn't be a holiday.

I want a foreign holiday, I need a foreign holiday but I am not going to have one again this year as it is not the right thing to do and it is still unsafe.
