Hobbit/Life of Pi 2D or 3D...

Worth watching in 3D or just normal 2D?

Any one seen either film and marvelled over the 3D?

Hoping top see both this weekend, wanted to know is it worth spending extra cash on the 3D experience or not?

I really enjoyed life of Pi in 3D. Best film for it since Avatar in my view. A couple of scenes that really come to life!

I saw The Hobbit in 2D and I don't think I would have gained anything by paying extra to see it in 3D. TBH there are very few films that benefit from being in 3D, it just seems like a bit of a gimmick.

Seen both in 3D, and thought, for both films, that it was in fact worth the extra cost for 3D, despite being sceptical beforehand.
Experience enhanced in the case of the Hobbit by seeing it at the new Dukes at the Komedia cinema -- comfortable seats with drinks holders, good screen, excellent sound and nice bar (and you can take your drinks, in proper glasses, into the auditorium -- couple of bottles of Dark Star in my case...)

This. Great film, and enhanced by 3D. Like [MENTION=6625]Badger[/MENTION] says, 3D is usually a gimic, but it's not over-used in Life of Pi

My 19 year old son saw Hobbit in 3D and said it really added to the experience. He's usually quite cynical about such things. Hope that helps.

I agree that there were a few bits in Life of Pi were the 3D helped, but I still don't think I would've 'lost' anything by seeing it in 2D, and definitely the Hobbit doesn't need to be seen in 3D. Still nothing since Avatar that has really been better in 3D...

I was sceptical about whether the Hobbit was worth seeing in 3D but I went and enjoyed it. Not seen Life of Pi but I know people that have been and said it was worth seeing in 3D.

Piranha 3D and the 3DD remake were particularly good in their representation of the female upper half.

It's only £5 to see it in 2D or 3D at the Dome in Worthing, or £6 if you don't already have 3D glasses. Much cheaper than Cineworld in Brighton!

I always forget to take along the 3D glasses I have bought and as a result have 17 pairs on last count.

I saw both in 3D and would recommend seeing either in this format.

Also, if you go to see The Hobbit in 3D, try to get to one of these showings at the Cineworld cinema at Brighton Marina where it is being shown in the brand new format High Frame Rate 3D (at 48 frames a second rather than the usual 24.)

I was going to say exactly this, so I won't worry to add anything other than... I agree with Badger (who I assume gets rather nervous when anyone abbreviates the name of our illustrious chairman...)

Seen both in 3D. The Hobbit at the Crawley IMAX at 48 frames/second. Life of Pi at the Duke of York's.

Due to the fast moving scenes in The Hobbit I found some sections of action blurry - even at the faster frame rate (may be just my eyes!). The Life of Pi didn't suffer that and being at 24 frames/second the picture brightness and colour saturation was better.

But I still find 3D a bit gimmicky and don't feel it really enhances a film that much.

Both films are good but if you are pushed for time you may want to skip the first hour of The Hobbit as you won't have missed anything!
