Blame the internet and pirates for that one. Its great to be able to download the music you want in seconds and stick it on your MP3. Call me old fashioned but I used to buy a lot of CD's and it was great to see your collection grow. Same with Computer games.
I also remember going to Gamer in Brighton for my commodore 64 games and Amiga games. You got a proper box and instructions with your games, not some bloody PDF. Buy the time you printed it out, you would need a new set of cartridges.

Yeah I remember going there for Amstrad games, the good old days when you had to wait half an hour for a game to load and there was a 50% chance it wouldn't crash.
It's not just pirates and downloads. Go on amazon and get a blu ray for 13.99 or go into hmv and pay 19.99 for the same film? 7.99 for a cd on play, or 11.99 in hmv? etc. High street stores are losing out because they can't base their businesses in jersey and avoid taxes to offer cheaper products.

Don't think they will go bust just yet. They had a poor xmas, but so did a lot of companies, even Tesco's was down on predicted sales. HMV are fighting a losing battle though. The shops are shit and people would rather go online and get the music/films.

I agree. There shops being shit dark and dingy are also part of the problem I reckon. Bloody disorganised as well with things stacked all over the place.
They haven't moved on from 10 years ago.

I actually think HMV have got a chance to see this through. They clearly can't compete with the internet on price, but quite a lot of their products are close enough (within £1-2) that they will pick up sales on impulse purchase.

What was the name of the company that used to be Virgin Megastores? They went bust didn't they, as did Borders the book chain.
So I don't think it's beyond the realms of probability that HMV would go the same way, or become an online retailer only. Their shops are absolute junkyards, full of crap. I can't even remember the last time I bought something from them. If I want a DVD or Blu-ray I'll just go online, or to Tesco/Asda if I need it there and then. And music I just buy as downloads, never CDs any more.
What do they expect? they charge 15 quid for a newish DVD.

only thing theyve got going for them is pure points, only reason i use their website instead of amazon if prices are the same, then i can rack up points and get a £10 voucher, just so i can spent the voucher on the £10 difference between instore and online
