Police to quiz Hendrie

Hendrie showed his frustration
Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie is to be questioned by police after a bust-up with his own supporters during Saturday's friendly at Walsall.
The former England player kicked the ball into the area of the ground occupied by Villa fans after being abused from the terraces.

West Midlands police confirmed on Monday that all individuals connected with the incident would be questioned.

The 26-year-old is alleged to have delivered a tirade of four-letter abuse towards Villa fans - one of whom complained to police at the game.

Match report: Walsall 2-1 Aston Villa

Hendrie has since apologised for his behaviour and met Villa manager David O'Leary to discuss the incident.

But a police spokesman said: "We are aware of the incident and inquiries are ongoing.

"We are due to speak to individuals connected with the incident," he told the Birmingham Evening Mail.

Hendrie was upset that fans derided him for allegedly being a follower of Villa's rivals Birmingham City as a youngster.

Villa fans also taunted Hendrie with chants of: "You're not fit to wear the shirt."

He eventually lost his temper and kicked the ball before his alleged outburst.

It not exactly mugging old ladies whatever way you look at it & I bet those complaining were all calling him a F****** ****

Incidentally, I followed Lee Hendrie in his BMW before he was banned from driving (I was on my way to the tip). I was most impressed with his adherance to the speed limit considering the motor he was in & his reputation for smashing them up

The corner quietly rusting
Also from the Evening Mail

The 26-year-old came in for abuse from the boo-boys in the pre-season friendly defeat at Walsall.

Even pop impresario Pete Waterman, a Saddlers fan who was sitting within earshot, said: “I’ve never heard fans give one of their own so much stick.”
======
That's conclusive proof then, he's never been to a Brighton game!

Obviously wasn't at England v San Marino in 1993 (?) when our section - and eventually about a quarter of the entire crowd - were shouting "Off! Off! Off" everytime John Barnes touched the ball.

Marvellous scenes. :p
