The Trojan locks the Laptop and we are unable to access. Computers / IT are not my strength so any help or advice would be appreciated.

Boot In safe mode. Download Maleware bytes, Spybot search and destroy. Install Microsoft security centre, clean. Reboot. If not Install Linux.

need much more info before i can help ie what make model of laptop what operating system is installed how far dose boot up sequence get before it freezes what dose final screen look like (any error msg displayed) do you have windows discs,ect
ps if it is on home network with other pcs remove it from network NOW

Its a bit harsh having your son removed just cause he got a virus.

Hold down the power button until laptop turns off. Turn laptop back on. Hold F8 button on laptop and choose boot in safe mode when option appears. Download Maleware bytes, Spybot search and destroy. Install Microsoft security centre, clean. Reboot. Do not install linux... Ever

Its your sons laptop, he can sort out fixing it himself. He will become more tech savvy, and click on less dodgy porn.

Preventative measures are better. Tell him some safe porn sites so he doesn't get Virus' in the future.

My grandson's laptop had a virus and he made the mistake of asking me to sort it while his parents were within earshot.
When I asked him which porn sites he'd been visiting he at least had the good grace to blush.
His dad laughed and his mum went ballistic . Never occured to any of them to ask how I knew

I think I mis-phrased what I put. I think It was supposed to come out like If all else fails LOL
If he did go Linux I expect Tux the albion Penguin could fix his problems remotely.
I've got a little more research to do but my new plan for my computer illiterate relatives is to fix them up with a clone of my system and set-up remote access. Then instead of an interminable phone conversation full of misdirection and cross-purposes I can just say "Mum, walk away from the computer, have a cup of tea, it'll be sorted by the time you're finished."
