I need the collective wisdom of North Stand Chat. I have written a book on our time in the Premier Lesgue.

It’s not the story of our history as that’s been well covered elsewhere this is more of a relatively lighthearted walkthrough of the seasons game by game. It hopefully allows people to remember some of the high points and low points, some of the players that have been and gone, some interesting facts and some of the emotions we have felt along the way (good and bad).

It’s not the longest, circa 60,000 words but that feels enough for a sports book.

I have written books before (two to be exact) but they were historical fiction and the publisher I have worked with isn’t interested in this as it’s understandably too niche!

So, my ask is, does anyone have any suggestion or connections as to how I could take this forward. I really don’t know where to start on this one. One thing it would clearly benefit from is some pictures to bring the narrative to life but again I don’t know how any of that would work.

Any or all suggestions welcome. Thanks in advance.

Do you have a literary agent?
I did for the two previous books but they specialised in historical fiction and it was a decade ago now anyway. I debated trying to find one for this but wasn’t sure how to do that as my gut instinct was it’s just too niche.

One of the outcomes I hoped for by posting here would be some recommendations for any agents who people know may be prepared to engage in something like this.

There are quite a few who specialise in sport. David Luxton is good and maybe the Michael Greer agency too.

I’ve just written my life story which is being published by a company in California. It’s about 55k words so a little bit shorter than yours.
It’s cost me £880 ish which includes a hefty discount as I signed up with them online, and they reckon it’ll be approximately $100 to ship the 30 copies I want when it’s ready.
They’ve been absolutely brilliant so far -(the front and back covers came back within 24 hours and blew me away)- and they’re about 3/4’s of the way through the editing process.
They’re going to put it on Amazon and E-books (despite me telling them it hasn’t got a hope of being of interest to the general public, hence me only needing 30 copies to give to friends and family).
Please let me know if you’re interested and I’ll send you their details.
Cheers and best of luck with it.
Stuart.

Thanks, this is really helpful, if you could send me their details that would be great. I’m intrigued now, I want to read your life story!

Have you asked the club if they would be interested?

Otherwise, maybe try reaching out to Spencer Vignes and Nick Szczepanik who have had Albion books published before.

Shame my Dad isn’t still alive - Publisher and an avid Brighton STH for 40 years - he’s be right on it.

I say, never mind about pictures - sell it as a hybrid scrapbook with the opposite page to your recollections printed blank - we can all add our photos, programs, tickets and other mementos of the matches you describe. Or just write our own handwritten notes in (or random photos )

😂 It’s got lots of rude words, one liners, anecdotes, loads of Albion-related stuff but it’s not for the easily offended!!

Right, they’re Global Publishing Company. If you click on them when you search them, it’ll take you straight into their live chat. That’s how I started and it’s how I ended up getting 60% off. Jessica Brown was my start point and David Luiz is managing my editing team.

Apart from the front and back covers, I haven’t included any photos with mine as they would bump the cost up quite a bit.

Good luck and look forward to hearing how you get on.

If I published my life story my family and friends would never speak to me again :lolol:

And I'd be banned from NSC.
