and have been working on it albeit very slowly due to work commitments etc. I registered the site over 1 year ago with an idea

attched below:

my site

my marketing and advertising has been utter poo so over the past year or so has had bugger all attention. An american site has come out virtally the same (better made probably but doesnt attach banners just links so not as good in that way)a few weeks ago claiming to be unique idea ?

Am i fooked  or i do anything about it?

I did attach a copyright thingy at the bottom of my site back in 2005 but i fear that this means nothing.

Advice needed. Thanks:angel:

Inform them their idea isn't unique. Then make your site look as professional as possible and really hit the marketing hard.

hi rich,

long time. i did email them this afternoon saying their idea isn't unique but i haven't had a reply. How could i prove it anyway? Apart from proof when i brought the domain (which could have had anything on it) bloody yanks

Couldn't you just set up the email address then set up another Paypal account linked to it just for this business?

It is a very good idea, by the way, the kind that could make people a lot of money if they do it right.

Hey man,

Don't worry about them, just if your really serious out move them! You registered the domain name before them and kept a record so thats enough! A few tips,

As juan says, get a different email.
Try to use a different font - rather than Times New Roman.
The colour scheme, try lighter colours. Maybe a white background with pools of colours rather than blocks.
Reword some text. For example, instead of "I am not responsible for the content of external sites." Put your whole name. Also maybe tinker with the wording of the FAQ.

cheers guys. I saw this site this afternoon and just rushed everything together. I do have a few issues that need smoothing, but i thought just get it out there. I have been doodling with this idea for almost 2 years now but had put it off due to my shite website building skills.

the one good thing is that even this new site looks a crap and doesnt have the site banners and only went live a few weeks back.

All ideas and offers of help appreciated

I think you need to show how many "click throughs" each banner is getting, to give potential bidders an idea as to what they're getting for their money.

An excellent idea though...

Hardly your idea!! Or if it was certainly been done to death before.

Porn and Warez sites have been doing similar for years!!

You're probably fooked. If yours seems to be getting the better of the yank one, George W(anker) will probably send the army in to sort you out.

i have never seen a banner bidding chart on a pron site and i have been to a few :p

the yank one just has a link to it, not site banner s etc, although a slight rip off, no one will advertise there just for a boring link? i use the whole banner?

fair enough, its just a site to advertise other peoples site. Im hoping that its uniqueness will attract enough traffic to generate people to advertise there and attract traffic to their site. You bid for a spot, the hight up the page you are, the more attention you get?

People don't go to the cinema just to watch the trailers, don't turn the tv on halfway through a show just to see the commercials and wouldn't drive through central London for the purpose of stocking up on billboard info.

I don't understand why anyone would voluntarily visit a site that doesn't even claim to be anything other than an advert.

Am I missing something?

i know exactly what you mean but there is a market for it, if the idea is unique? A unique idea attracts attention, attention attracts traffic, traffic attracts adverts. The more the traffic etc the more the ads will go on. Well thats my theory and like milliondoallarhopage that was unique and worked, but now the pixels have all been brought the site is dead. Although he is well off now.

Although there is a market, your idea is only unique in that it's a very slight variation of what a million other (link directory) sites already do.

Most will rank their adverts based on links back to the main website, rather than bidding hard cash. Hopefully it's quirky enough to work, but don't go giving up the day job.
