I saw James Elroy at the Ropetackle a few years ago. I have to confess I didn't know much about Elroy outside of the fact he wrote LA Confidential and that he's a pretty big writer. I thought it would be interesting to go and see. He had a big old rant about how the LAPD did nothing wrong beating up Rodney King, and generally came across as thoroughly revolting individual.
