Headphones

Hello.

I want to buy some headphones - but every time I wander in the direction of the musical technology aisle, I break out in a slight panic. I can't understand how there can be so very many different types of headphones, and I don't just mean between the "big fat ones that sit on your head" and the "in-ear" headphones, since it's the latter that i'm particularly interested in. But with the in-ear ones, there seem to be about 50 different types from all kinds of different manufacturers. Some for about £10, and others for up to £60.

So I ask you, wise and learned people of NSC, can anyone recommend a decent set of in-ear headphones for about £20? I'd like to listen to some music on the train or wandering around, without everyone else being able to hear (so that no-one catches onto my Celine Dion fixation) and, ideally, I'd like it if they didn't really hurt my ears after 30 minutes.

The CX300s would be good....you can get them on Amazon for £17.99

I've got a pair of the CX500s and they are the dogs dangleys...you also couldnt go wrong with CX55s...both of these will see you part with 40 of your hard earned pounds.

Bottom line is....on your budget get Sennheisers....and try to get noise cancelling headphones....these reduce the ambient noise and would be good for the train.....some people dont rate them but the key to making them work is ensuring the earbuds are a snug fit....otherwise they dont work.

I too have the Sennheiser CX300s (I think they cost me £17) - you are highly unlikely to get anything better for that price.

I like the standard ipod ones, because they allow me to hear the world outside through the music more than the ones that came with my walkman phone. Which may sound like a bad thing, but when I'm out walking, I like being able to hear oncoming traffic when come up to a bend, or stepping out behind inconveniently parked vans, and be able to hear whne someone tries to talk to me

Sennis do a nice range of "over ear" and lightwieght ones, I have used them for some time, sound great, and dead comfy too

ipod ears are poop, why Apple persist is beyond me. Try some Sennis, Skull Candys, even some Sonys, and, as B&W say, "Listen, and You'll See"

My first decent pair of headphone were a pair of yellow foam Sen HD40's - they were the dog's nads. Good to see Sennheisser still cranking out quality earwear.

Yeah, get noise-cancelling in-ear Sennis if you're on a budget. I use HD201s for decks/mixing and they are pretty good and all.

I have some cx300s too. Best headphones I've had and they are better than some others I've had for quite a bit more money
