I have 1 hdmi socket on my tv and to save keep changing from my Roku stick to HDMI Cable to laptop I bought a 2 way splitter on e bay but when inserted the tv screen is blank. I normally watch freeview via HDMI 1 but when using the Roku or HDMI cable have to switch to HDMI 2. I did this and the screen showed nothing neither Roku or Laptop what am I either not doing or doing wrong please. The splitter is a basic extension cable from 1 male input to 2 female outputs. Many thanks for any advice

Have you tried to test it with just one of the laptop or the Roku connected to the TV via the splitter? It may be if you have both connected and switched on the splitter doesn't know which signal to send and won't send either.

I used to have the same issue years ago when I ran a PS3 and sky box through a splitter. Turned out that even on standby, the PS3 still sent out a signal that was strong enough to block the sky box. I ended up having to unplug the hdmi from the console every time I wanted to watch TV which kind of defeated the purpose of the splitter.

Have you got a splitter or an HDMI switch ? You need the latter to switch between sources - the former is to allow a source to be replicated on two screens.

Examples :

Splitter - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Goodluckin...145686&sr=8-4&keywords=hdmi+splitter+2+output

Switch - https://www.amazon.co.uk/HDMI-Switc...qid=1510145532&sr=1-14&keywords=hdmi-splitter

The splitter as shown in your highlighted post. So I have probably bought the wrong thing thanks for that. I assume the switch will allow me to watch either the hdmi lead to laptop or Roku. Many thanks

I have asked the seller if I can return the splitter and if he sells the switch if so I will buy hat if not I will order one elsewhere. I must admit I didnt realize the difference.

Good move BG. People are not buying enough hats.
