If you want to feel old, he was born over two years after Zamora's Albion debut.

The full match is on YouTube. He played the second half (no. 14).

Early days, but the England 2002s are showing a lot of promise, with a fair amount of strength in depth. Gelhardt looks a handful. Wigan have done well to hold onto him.

He looks the real deal. Was MOTM against Manchester City a couple of weeks ago, a couple of key tackles and a goal to add to it. One to watch for sure...

Haydon played the whole match today as he helped England U-17s beat hosts Denmark 3-2 (with some late drama, with 4 of the goals scored from the 79th minute onwards) to qualify for the UEFA 2019 U-17 European Championship Finals this summer as group winners. The 16-team Finals will be held in Ireland from May 3 - 19.

In fact, Haydon played every minute of the 3 qualifiers over the last week. Barring injury, he would seem to be a certain selection for the Finals squad. Midfielder (and fellow Albion 1st-year scholar) Ted Jenks was also called up for the squad this week but unfortunately missed out through injury.

For those who are interested in such matters, there should be plenty of Albion interest in various Finals tournaments over the summer months: Roberts (and possibly Jenks) in the UEFA U-17s in May; Leo Ostigard for Norway in the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland commencing in May; all of Leon Balogun, Yves Bissouma, Percy Tau and Gaetan Bong in the Africa Cup of Nations Finals in Egypt commencing in June and Anders Dreyer for Denmark in the UEFA U-21 Finals in Italy in June.

Our youth policy will pay dividends down the line, can’t wait to see one of them make the step up. Building for the future.

The successful England U-17 squad after today's game. Haydon is partially hidden behind number 16:-

Big fan of Roberts. I am a bit confused about what position he plays though. UEFA has him down as CB v Switzerland, RB v Croatia and LB v Denmark. He looks like he has the skills to move up to midfield.

The UEFA U17 championship is also a qualifying tournament for the FIFA U17 world cup in October in Brazil, so that's an added incentive to do well.

I saw him play against Man City u21s at Crawley earlier this season and he looked exceptional that night at the tender age of 16 ! Hopefully one that can come through and make his mark on the senior team.
If it continues well we're in a very good place with all these young lads coming through.

Did we "acquire" him from another Club or is he a genuine "coming up through the ranks", same for Teddy Jenks really! It would be a great advert for the Academy if both boys were local, should stop some posters moaning that we're not letting local youth have a chance! ;)

I've watched Haydon a few times now and, in my humble opinion, he really looks the part at such a young age. He was superb in the Youth Cup tie away to West Ham at Dagenham.

Only seen him once, in the Sussex Senior Cup at Lewes & he was very calm on the ball; seemed to have more time than the others, which is always a good sign.

Roberts joined the club in October 2015 during his U-14 schoolboy season. Jenks has been at the club since the age of 9.
