Hawsey appreciation thread

With no desire whatsoever to drag up yet again any recent well-worn media kerfuffles, I read on the mailing list (on which I lurk) from the man himself that Hawesy doesn't have another position lined up.

So, to add to Bozza's pressie thread, I just thought I'd mention that I'd very much prefer if the chap didn't leave his SCR position and wanted to make this point again on here. If nothing else, it might give him some extra references to add to his CV, not that he should need them.

I think the bloke's been a fantastic commentator on our great club's recent insanely lively history and even if he doesn't stay, I reckon he deserves a great deal of appreciation from us lot, his public. So, just say below if you agree.

Time for the moan in to expand their coverage?

Has he been sacked for Lickergate, or is he leaving because he feels a lack of support from SCR. It makes a difference in the direction of our support for him.

Hawesy

We've been privileged to have him.

All the best for the future, and whatever it brings you, Andrew.

I can't see what difference it makes. He's been great for us and has decided he wants to move on. Whatever the reason for his leaving, we should applaud him and thank him.

I think he's been an excellent commentator, and one of a few journalists (broadcast and print) that the Albion are very lucky to have had. A classic case of you don't know what you've got til it's gone, he and Harty were a great team.

I can say with confidence that some of what passes for local radio reporting at other, supposedly bigger clubs doesn't come close, and he at least tried to ask the tough questions of a manager after a defeat rather than come out with some nonsense like 'the team were brilliant for 10 minutes in the first half' (heard this season).

I don't know all the facts but if it is his decision, and it is irreversible ie he feels like he's been let down and can no longer work there, I respect that and hope he gets something else very soon.

Of course it makes a difference. Lets hope he will, if that's what he wants, take his undoubted talents to a wider audience.

Really nice guy, and very good commentator. If anybody else has tried listening to the standard of the local BBC radio commentators around the country, they'll agree we're losing one of the finest.

A top commentator, we'll be lucky if SCR get someone half as good to replace him. A sad day. All the best Andrew for the future.

Well done and thanks mate. It was a pleasure listening to you over the years. And you did ask the uncomfortable questions in post-match interviews, but in a non-challenging way. A great skill.

It's funny how you have a mental picture of someone - seeing his pic for the first time in the Argus yesterday was a jaw dropper. Nothing like I'd imagined him looking.

Have already praised him on other threads but forgot to say that my missus will really miss him. She is an armchair supporter who loved his commentaries. I suspect there are many other football widows who will feel the same.

All the best Hawsey. Hope it all works out for you and that you enjoy a few games at Swindon.

A very decent commentator by local radio standards and comes across as a thoroughly nice chap, with no discernible ego or agenda unlike so many other football commenators.

Still really don't know why he's going but it's a shame. As so many have said, a very good commentator and an engaging presenter. He will be missed. I hope the club will do something to show their appreciation of his career covering The Albion. And if you're reading this Andrew, all the very best for the future.
