Our much maligned centre back might even get himself back into the team with Elphick and Heath both out, I doubt it considering Virgo/El-Abd/Hinshelwood are there too. But you never know, we might have to have him back.

Is it really a massive disaster? It's been a long time since the horrors of, well, every one of his appearances since Crewe/Bristol Rovers/Southend. What's the worst that can happen with him back in the side?

And more importantly, will he be jeered should he play for us again?

If its a heavy pitch he could wheelspin?

Why would Elphick be out?

Suspended - 10 yellow cards. Keep up! :lolol:

Hawkins won't get near the team - we already have 3 centre halves better than him and frankly probably another whole squad who would be less of a liability. Hope he never plays for Brighton again to be honest - although even as I say that I might eat my words if he turns out to be the new Butters.

Ok, I think everone is in agreement that he shouldn't play for us again.

But what if he did? Would he booed?

Forgive my ignorance but why should he be booed? The general consensus is that he tries but he just ain't very good. Booing should be reserved for the talented who don't give a toss or the manager who picks the wrong team and buys the wrong players e.g. Adams buying Hawkins

I won't boo him, I was just asking if other people would. I don't see how booing helps anyone, especially a centre back at this time of season! If he did come into the side, and let's face it he can't be much worse than some of those already in the side, we should support and we should encourage him. But come on, this is Brighton. We rarely try and help our team, we're so quick to boo and hiss it's saddening.

Not sure our fans are that bad. Hawkins was targeted due to Adams picking him when he was unfit and Lynch being ignored. If Hawkins plays, I expect the fans to react fine if he plays alright.

I don't think our fans are any worse than those of any other club. Let's be fair - it's been the most disappointing season most of us can remember (for me, going back over 25 years) and anyone's patience would have been stretched beyond breaking point.

I for one think he was unfairly treated.

I'm not pretending to be 'in the know' or anything, but I did have a drunken conversation with him (I was drunk, not him) in Oceana a couple of weeks ago after the reserve demolition of Southampton. He was there with 7 or 8 others who played that night, including Livermore, Sullivan, Fraser etc.

Anyway, from what I remember, he said that after his hernia he was rushed back from injury, and basically told he had to play. As it is accepted he was good at the beginning of the season, is it possible we haven't seen a fit Hawkins since?

I also tapped Livermore on the shoulder and blurted out "you should start" before walking off. I did not mean at left back!!

Really? I don't agree with that personally, I think we've contributed to our own downfall this season by booing them off at Withdean practically every game, whether it's deserved is another debate entirely. Our away support is magnificent, and our away form is rather good. If the players don't feel comfortable playing at home, in front of their fans, than we only have ourselves to blame.

Hawkins was outstanding in August, he was one of our best players ironically. His partnership with Elphick looked sound, and then the Scunthorpe game happened and it all went to pot! He was conceeding penalties, he was fouling people all over the place, he was slow to react, he just generally had 'mare after 'mare, culminating in the spectacularly bizarre own goal against Hartlepool in the FA cup. Maybe it's time that was forgotten, perhaps he was unfit and forced to play, perhaps our perception of him is misguided as a result, but we won't know unless he's given a chance. He signed a 2 year deal in the summer, and I don't see any other club wanting to sign him, so he might aswell play.
