The usual suspect stuck a thread up to have a go at his usual suspect. Had we lost the game due to Hawkins' poor performance alone, then I think his criticism would've been more valid. The fact of the matter is that particular situation wasn't the case yesterday: the entire team played like a shower of shite. Withdean Wanderer appears to have a personal vendetta against Hawkins & I, for one, am f***ing sick of it.

why don't you hit him?

I don't know who he is, & I don't think it'd do much good anyway. I try to ignore some posts on here, but the 'Let's find a scapegoat' crowd really piss me off sometimes - & this is one of those times. And all coming from a person who thinks Doug Loft is some kind of secret footballing genius. f*** sake.

I think it was on Thursday, that Adams said in the Argus that if Hawkins wasn't feeling 100%, then he was sure that Hawkins would admit it, as he was an honest lad.

Everyone defending Hawkins doesn't seem to actually be arguing that he was at fault for most, if not all, of their goals yesterday. It's true that the whole team were crap but I don't see how yu ca accuse anyone of having a vendetta against a player when all the criticisms are true, and frankly, unforgiveable.

If Hawkins wasn't fit enough to do his job properly, he shouldn't have been playing. Whoever is to blame though, you can't excuse a performance like that.

Hawkins is turning into one of the most overrated players we've had for ages. He isn't stand-out brilliant at the best of times and he is prone to a lot of mistakes. Just because he occasionally makes a brave header and is no-nonsense doesn't make him good. I'd have Lycnh ahead of him any day.

He doesn't deserve the continual criticism he alone gets from Mr Withdean IMO - especially after a game where it would be very easy to single out any one of many players for a right slagging. If Hawkins was carrying an injury, then maybe MA is at fault for picking him ahead of Lynch yesterday. I think I would have given Joel the nod if I was picking the team (God forbid!) , but then none of us are privy to the full facts. Even if Lynch had started the game, I'd still wager we would've got hammered yesterday: but we'll never know now, unfortunately.

The fact of the matter is Hawkins is surely not the defender that everyone seems to think he is. He couldn't hold down a place at Coventry and was inevitably sent on loan to a league 2 club.

The only teams he has managed atleast 50 games for are Irish teams.

Yes he will look solid against weaker teams but against a bit of skill and trickery it is blatantly obvious he isn't the answer.

A solid back up to Lynch and Elphick, Nothing more...

So adams willingly put a player in who could not pass a ball properly or run properly, and that player did not suggest to the manager that he could not play?

dont you think hawkins would say to adams if he wasnt fit?

I think it would be pretty difficult to tell an old school manager like Adams you were not fit to play. If he was unfit to play, as it looks, then they are both to blame for different reasons.

The first point is a terrible argument. It is about what happens at this club that counts. There are plenty of examples of a player trundling along without pulling up any trees. See Andy Crosby as a fine example of that. Having said that, he won a fair few titles in Ireland and the standard is pretty good out there. Also, didn't he get injured for a long period at Coventry?

You are basing the last point on one game, when he may or may not have been 100% fit, and when the whole team were put under enormous pressure by an insipid midfield.

Maybe I am being harsh just feel it should be Lynch playing not Hawkins. The 2 younger defenders can learn a lot from Hawkins but the partnership between Lynch and Elphick was really starting to blossom last year.

We will have to wait and see, surely Lynch will be starting against Yeovil and I hope he proves me right and shows more signs of his huge potential this year...

You ARE a big Lynch fan and you keep going on about him - why not state that at the beginning of your posts so that people know you have a slightly biased way of seeing the performances of other defenders.

No, i'm a big ELPHICK fan, and i don't understand why it's suddenly the IN thing to slate Elphick and praise 'The Hawk'. Yesterday is the prime example - despite him being at fault for EVERY goal and being SUBBED, Elphick is still the one who gets the pre-match NSC slating. It's pathetic. One person says Hawkins is good and Elphick is a hoofer, and EVERYONE jumps on the bandwagon.

If HseagullsH had used the words "skill, trickery and PACE", i'd have said he was SPOT ON.

An alright squad player, not the Bobby Moore some people would like to believe he is.

I'm glad this lunchbox thing caught on with Withdean Wanderer

Well it hasn't really, has it.

The sad stalking twat algie has apparently spotted me in a pub with a bag, but been too scared to say anything in person, and has instead decided to come online and use the 'packed lunch' over and over again (he's that imaginative/funny). Knobber.

Following on from the comments on Hawkins Injury. Hawkins was an injury doubt against Northampton and yet still it was Elphick that was rested.
There is no way that Hawkins poor display was due to an injury. If he starts, that means he is fit enough to put in a good display....

Well from what I've read I've seen a few people comment on it, Lunchpack
