If you mean by this question "Have I ever labelled someone of Chinese origin by this term to their face" then the answer is a categorical "NO".

But if you mean have I ever said "Do you fancy some Chinky nosh?" as a shorthand for "Do you fancy visiting a Chinese restaurant?" then "YES"...

I was asked not to use the phrase "Indian giver" the other day. Couldn't understand why it was deemed racist to be honest.

I grew up and went to school with a mate who is half caste and we called him Woggy and I still see him now and call him Woggy as that is how everybody knew him in those days and there is no racial intent then as there is now. We are now both in our late 50's.

A local Councillor here who is black has been labelled "Councillor Flip-Flop" by some other councillors because he has left and then rejoined the Party he stood for in 2011. I feel uncomfortable with this as there is a far more abusive term from the past involving short names with "I" and "O" in them.

Used the word chinky as an abbreviation for a Chinese takeaway many times but I don't ever recall calling a Chinese person a chink, might have done when I was younger but I don't recall it. I certainly don't see it as racist myself as it's only used in reference to food not the people that are cooking it or serving it.

Do people get all huffy when someone calls a Frenchman a frog or a "Yank" calls us "Limeys"? No.

An American person called me a Limey once. I have had to have regular counselling and I am still frightened to go out in case it happens again.

My missus calls her best friend Chink. Don't worry, I'll have her reported to the police for it

"
Called 'a Chinaman a chink'?

Following on from Dave Whelan's comments - 'If any Englishman said he has never called a Chinaman a 'chink' he is lying." Thought this might prove an interesting poll. I've set it as private for anyone who might be worried.

Should be noted that Whelan has since apologised for his remarks.

I feel so very sorry for David Whelan who is IMO one of the 'good guys' of Footy. I've never considered him to be anything other than a gentleman, that he should apologise confirms that, for in my view there really was nothing to be sorry for. It really wasn't derogatory, in fact it was almost complimentary suggesting that Jews make good business people.
Chinky ....yes I've been out for a chinky a few times, can't remember calling a Chinese Person a 'Chink' but if I had it wouldn't have been in detriment.

People seem to want to "take offence" these days, they pay no attention to the context in which words are used, they just hear the word and are instantly offended. The truth is, in most cases these people aren't offended at all, they just need to be seen to be taking offence.

Yes I have, but not in the last 30 years or more, it's just another thing from less enlightened times that has become unacceptable. I don't know whether it's as offensive as the N-word, only a Chinese could tell you that really.

Principle is the same with some of the 'sex pest' trials going on......some of the offences were fairly common behaviour in the 70s, but usually resulted in a hefty slap rather than a police visit. Todays standards are different.

My grandmother still uses 'darkie'. Have tried to explain but at 94 I don't think it sinks in.

I can remember when I was young being told by my parents to go down the paki shop and buy some fags  Seems hard to believe now, certainly wouldn't call it that to my 7 year old now, I do get annoyed when he comes back without my fags though:D

I'm very offended by this on your behalf. Who do I complain to?
