Seems incredibly common type of incident now, must be frightening to see especially if already fearful of flying.

Don’t know what the solution is, symbolic of just another slip in basic standards if people feel need to start swinging punches in a confined space oblivious to others. Regardless of circumstances. People have simply forgotten how to behave. Or were never taught in first place probably.

Nothing to do with the generational genius of former high standards of parenting - merely a result of readily available cheap flights and more people able to fly, same as more vehicles than ever on the road, more people cycling, more people owning dogs etc etc. Or just wear rose tinted glasses and reflect everyone was better back in my day.

Now I'm not condoning racism, they probably deserved a good kicking, however surely it's a bit harsh to get them to leave the plane when they are at 30,000ft!

Young aggressive type blokes, too much drinking at the airport and probably (some will say definitely) on Cocaine.
I’m not sure why some people are not refused entry to planes like they are at nightclubs.

When working for BA I was going out to Paris on a B737 as a "flying spanner" to complete the turn round when a passenger had a row with his partner jumped up and tried to open the door. Loads of screaming ensued. I did manage to assure those around me that under no circumstances when he be able to overcome the cabin pressure exerted on the door and that it is indeed bigger than the hole, known as a plug door.

He was restrained using **** off big tie wraps.

I have a totally irrational fear of being in a confined space full of other people, especially when some of them can suddenly act like those in the video. I also hate being at airports for hours.
I have got absolutely no fear of flying though.

Totally unacceptable and should carry a prison sentence but cheap flights, cheap(ish) booze = this. Would have been the same in 70s/80s.

I started drinking in pubs in the very late 80s, there were multiple fights literally EVERY Friday & Saturday, admittedly there wasn’t a knife culture but I’ve seen people glassed and it’s not pleasant. From what I see now there is far less trouble. That’s before we’ve started talking about watching the footie back then…….

The thickos never ever think it through. They never realise - until it's too late - that instead of having it large in Amsterdam or Ibiza or Goa, they and their luggage are only ever about 20 minutes of being dumped somewhere other than their holiday destination, with arrest, fines and probable airline ban to follow. Brain dead knuckle draggers and booze, usually always ends the same way.
Can't remember what flight it was on, possibly Prague, but there was a large group of obnoxious London cabbies going on a stag do who were all pissed, being rude to the airline staff, trying to grab the female staff and being homophobic to the male staff, we got turned around about 15mins into the flight and they were all escorted off the plane to plenty of cheers and applause.
I don't get it, why would you ever board a plane smashed with a group of like-minded halfwits and think it's a great idea?

This. My only surprise is this doesn’t happen more often given the English propensity to start necking pint after pint at the airport.

Whilst I have never witnessed scenes like the one in the video I have seen arguments with the staff both on the ground and in the air. It’s sometimes quite shocking how the punters speak to the staff and the crap they come out with.

I saw it once on an internal flight in the States. There was an air marshal on board so it was sorted out pretty quickly, these guys don't screw around. When we landed the NYPD were waiting to escort him off the plane.

Not to this level but watched continuous verbal to Philipinho cabin staff back from Middle East- was really playing up. Cabin director (German woman) let rip on them - threatened to have plan landed with all financial cost. Followed by one of the biggest round of applause you’ve heard.


If your plane is diverted because of your behaviour - you will financially pay for it. Mate was in way to Western USA when a bunch of lads in economy playing up on a stag do. All of a sudden seat belt signs came on as they started descent into a Canadian airport. Plane landed, on came the Mounties, handcuffed them and took them off. Steward informed my mate they would be charged for landing the plane and all associated costs £100-150k. Could have been worse if it took the pilots out of flying hours as they’d then pay for all passengers in hotel, loss of earnings etc. Best bit most airlines would never let them fly on them so how they got back home would have been very interesting

Not like the old days though, I was on a flight to Greece back in 1973 when we had "In Flight Maintenance" on an old Comet 4, to the passengers' amazement two of the staff came into the passenger section, pulled up the carpet and opened a hatch underneath for a bit of jemmying, to a part of the hydraulics I think.

By then the window seals were beginning to leak so they were fogging up too. Glad to get out of that old rust-bucket, they maintained them at Lasham, an old drome in Hampshire. Good old Dan Dare Airways...

So assuring you that it is far far safer than driving down the road in your car would fall on deaf ears?

It's fine though, l know it is a big problem for an awful lot of people. I guess you have to suffer from it yourself to totally understand what it feels like.

That’s a good point, people are more restricted getting into Clubs! Never a good sign seeing the Captain in cattle class having to stop the Bovines’ fighting!

Yes, we were about to fly back from Verona in August 2020, when in the seats directly behind us things got rather heated.

A huge, tough-looking Russian guy, started shouting for the entire plane to hear "If you knew what I just found out!" In a rage at his petite (I assume) wife and his mother in law. Maximum volume yelling, with sudden yanking of chairs.

The EasyJet crew were amazing. Little in size by contrast, they gathered to calm him down to an extent and then he agreed to move about 20 rows away.

I’m with you there but oddly as got older and with wife at side, a little routine, including rescue remedy, whisky and lots of distraction I can make it through. I’m exhausted usually at the other end, haven’t done eg USA or Far East for some time now but have been to Australia and NZ in past. I won’t fly in terms of work though, so have turned down bigger jobs because of. Need too much recovery time. Anyway next week I’m up in the clouds with a Spitfire for half an hour, can’t wait and the sheer excitement of that should calm my fears I reckon. It’s not irrational fear. We’re not designed to fly. And my puppy was terrified of a bobble hat in the park someone has dropped so all things relative!!
