The police have designated a recent murder as a "hate crime". Why? What exactly does this mean? Aren't all murders "hate crimes"? What's the alternative description? So many of the labels used by the authorities are just stupid. A personal opinion of course.

Another one is "special measures". What exactly are "special measures"? What's "special" about them? Do they achieve anything?

Get with the programme. Everything must be labelled. Everything must be captured. Everything must be measured. But interestingly, nothing ever changes. Except to worsen.

There’s a big difference between an impromptu murder and going out to hurt/murder someone who’s ‘different’. Which is little comfort to the loved ones of all victims of course.

All will be revealed in the trial.

It’s good to closely document these things too I think. Without the knowledge, society won’t know where exactly prejudice and resulting violence is occurring, what can be done about it.

I know of quite a few murders that have been committed by people known to each other / friendship groups. Some of these have been literally arguments between best friends that have tragically ended in someone losing their life. Theses types of murders are not hate crimes, there is clearly a difference.

I think she was killed because she was a young trans girl. She was killed because she was hated for who she was. That’s hate crime.

It makes it no less tragic, but was he killed because of who he chose to identify as? Was he killed because of ethnicity or gender or ability? A lot of things happen each day. Of course they have to pick and choose which stories to run.

Some scummers in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s deliberately targeted gay men in for example St James’s Street late at night, for an activity they called Gay Bashing. If it hadn’t have eventually been taken seriously, examined and recognised, the authorities/society wouldn’t have given it the attention it required. I like to think (could be wrong) that those streets are safer now. Whilst the next gen of scummer have moved onto the next group to physically attack.
