I'm quite looking forward to West Ham getting themselves into debt up to their eyeballs and still getting relegated.

Leeds United mk II anyone?

It seemed impossible for anyone to ever be so stupid again, but the reported £60k a week that's being paid to Lucas Neill does have that distinct smell of Peter Ridsdale about it.

Yep, I think they are very much the next Leeds Utd.

FFS - that is mental.

I thought Heskey at £5 million was madness

It's amazing. This is probably the first time in his managerial career that Curbs has had REAL money to spend, Charlton was chicken feed by comparison.

And in a panic with his team in desperate trouble, he looks in danger of spunking it all up the wall. Peter Taylor syndrome, as any Leicester fan will tell you.

Agreed - ought to take a leaf out of Reading's book. Don't necessarily look for big signings. That lad from the Irish league cost peanuts and is a great player.

Why do West Ham need more strikers?
they've enough decent strikers they just have no defence or midfield of any real talent

It's unbelievable, and almost certain to end in tears.

Liverpool paid £7 million for Peter Crouch one and a half years ago, a player deemed good enough to keep Bent out of the England team and good enough to bag several international goals.

So even allowing for football inflation Crouch's value can't be much more than £10 million, indeed Dirk Kuyt and Obafemi Martens cost around this figure so £18 million is £6 million over the odds AT LEAST.

Yes the world has gone mad. Charlton have gone even madder to turn down 18 million quid!

If I was Pardew I'd go for Bobby, Teddy, Mullins and £12 million.

I would imagine the thinking by both teams is that Bent will keep them in the premiership. with the monster TV deal on the way next year Charlton probably aren't too arsed about a measly £18m.

Yes, and 3 teams always come up from the Championship, so cash in now and bring in 2 or 3 players to give you a chance of staying up and / or take you up next year.

This really is a no-brainer, especially as Pardew can name practically any West Ham player to be part of the deal.
