I came off Twitter on my personal account about 3 months ago. Don’t miss it. I still have a wine review account that I continue to use as there are quite a few followers. I’m considering ditching that too, but haven’t yet.

Worthing
I've had Facebook for years and used to post regularly, but haven't done so in a few years now and rarely look at it. I use Twitter/X for footy stuff, bands and interesting people, but I always stick to the Following tab and never, ever post and block every bot that follows me. For a while I did block every ad that I could but gave up as it was endless. Now I just ignore the ads. I don't have any other social media.

Never used Twitter, Facebook or Instagram- only post on one forum and it’s this one.

I honestly don’t know how people manage to spend every hour of the day on SM - don’t they work? There does seem to be a lot of people that have developed mental health problems from using SM too much - that’s the problem with echo chambers - people constantly seeking affirmation from complete strangers - no wonder it messes with their head and makes so many people ill.

After todays horrific result I've just deactivated twitter so I'll let you know how it goes, I'm a regular reader, and some times poster.

I'm now also planning to remove myself from facebook and instagram, I don't really post on there anyhow just peruse...I'll keep pinterest as there is no vile hatred. I don't do tik tok so thats easy...NSC I'll keep my account and check in every now and then but recently there seems to be a bit more vitriol and a few posters currently spamming the place and it winds me up so I'll probably give that a rest for a while too..

I need to find decent factual up to date websites to replace the above, just to keep up to date, so not sure how that will go, but needs must.

The next 4 years are going to get worse before they get better, and todays feeling is that I want to stick my head in the sand and ignore it for my own mental health. I need a few days break from it all.
I switched off from the news ages ago have TS on in the back ground at work and watch Netflix or a movie at night.
Trust me if you switch off from news channels Trump won’t have any effect on your life whatsoever.
Politicians don’t care about you don’t give them a second thought, all self serving wankers.
I feel life is dragging you down at the moment judging by your postings. Keep going and ignore all the crap because that all it is.
In life there will always be a bully they are weak people, I don’t take any notice of them on here or in life.

We are mostly all strangers on here
Ive seen you argue plenty with ‘strangers’
Isn’t that the point of social media interaction with strangers and also friends?

I heavily limit my exposure to the news, to the extent of changing radio stations for 5 minutes if a news comes on. The same diet of bad news on 30 minute cycles, little wonder mental ill health is an issue, another factor in that.

I know what’s going on across the world, from reading reliable sources on my terms when I’m in the mood.

One of my little strategies on maintaining sanity.

I know people are addicted to eg the BBC TV news channel. What’s the point?

I’ve worked in houses where Sky news or whatever is on all day, with the how terrible what is the world coming to every half hour mumblings. It’s not a good way to live IMO.

Came off Facebook about 3 years ago as I was spending far too much time on it, shortly after Phoney Stark took over Twitter I noticed a lot of the people I followed had stopped posting, some even deleted their accounts completely. I deleted the Twitter app but kept my account open, and if I ever use it it is on match days, but even then I get far more information from the match day thread on here. Once the apps are gone from the phone I found it quite easy and didn't really miss either Facebook or Twitter.

I suffer from massive anxiety issues and SM can really set me off, that includes this place, I've only recently come back on here after a year away.

Deleted my twitter account about a year ago and tbh wasn't really using it anyway. I try to reduce doom scrolling tendencies by sticking to NSC and FB only. FB's main use to me is marketplace for buying and selling and ....a cat group because my cat has long term health issues. I don't request friends or accept friend requests because when i did i got their content pushed on me. Keeps things nice and simple.

I have tried both Bluesky and Mastodon since coming off Twitter some time ago. Both work and tend to have bots cross-posting from Twitter so you can keep up with what’s happening.

However, I would say that smoking is vastly superior to either.

Twitter - look at every day
Facebook - look at occasionally, never post
Instagram - really like and post stories which are nice one pics to share
Here - go through patches where I never look at this (pretty much have the summer free from NSC). Depends on how bust at work I am as to how much during the week.

I need to stop going to google news on my phone, I do it about a hundred times a day and the articles don’t change 😂 (I’ve just muted a WhatsApp with people ecstatic trump won so I’m going to ban the news sites from my phone as well!)

This is very true and very good advice. Mirrors my journey from news junkie to recovering addict eg these days I rarely buy a paper, watch or listen to programmes like QT, main news bulletins. And I don’t do / never have done social media, except NSC (which I also abstain from for lengthy periods, ignore some posters and threads etc). Protecting your MH from negative or inflammatory content (ie news!) is imperative, even life saving. I’d go as far as to say that. The internet is a necessary evil sadly, but it also drives news and it will consume you unless you self regulate. So I heartedly endorse what you’re saying Westie, as I’m sure others do similarly.

Moving off it myself, but a bit sad. There was a point when I had whittled down my feed to a really entertaining mix of humour, music, art, football and a LITTLE news. I could open it up and there would always be something to make me laugh/enjoy/impress. Was my favourite social media option.
The other day I went on there and I had a notification for a Tommy Robinson post.
f*** that.

Yep, this. I am gradually weaning myself off Twitter. Trump's victory being the final nail in the coffin for me, oh and all the Reform posters!

Will still use it to promote my blog, but other than that, not really!

Days Out With An Autistic Child

I have an account on Blue Sky, see how that goes - not much BHAFC going on at the moment though...
