League One side Hartlepool United have been given two dates next week for their case concerning the fielding of an ineligible player to be heard. Pools were due to respond to charges brought against themselves and defender Gary Liddle on Monday, after he was included in an Easter Monday line-up against Brighton and Hove Albion whilst suspended from first team matches.
The expectation had been for the Football Association to dish out an immediate three point deduction for the offence at the start of this week. It would appear that Hartlepool have requested a personal hearing into the matter.
They've now been given two separate hearings. The first will be hosted by the Football League on Tuesday 4th May, whilst the second will be staged by the Football Association on Thursday 6th May.
Both Hartlepool and Liddle have been charged with a breach of FA Rule E10 – failure to comply with a decision of The Association. The accusation will be that both parties had an obligation to be aware of when suspensions for players kicked in, and so to ensure that Liddle did not appear on the Easter Monday teamsheet. Pools are claiming that as the FA only sent through the list of suspended players on the Tuesday after the holiday weekend, they were unaware of Liddle's suspension.
