There is a private gated estate on the Hartfield to Uckfield road (1 mile or so north of Hartfield) that was reportedly the most expensive road in Sussex. There's only 8 or so houses but they will set you back a few million. I used to be friends with a couple who live there.

I lived there for 20 odd years before moving down here to Dorset. It was a fantastic place back then and I still return a couple of times a year to meet up with old friends. I used to live directly opposite the Anchor.

As Notters alluded to, Hartfield's most famous export is Winnie the Pooh. A.A. Milne lived there for over 30 years.

It is quite near to the Ashdown Forest, so it has close access to beautiful countryside and presumably the crime rate is quite low.
