85 in a 50 and driving a Range Rover, surprised he’s sentence is so small.

To match his brain. Absolutely no time for drink/dangerous drivers. He got off very lightly, not just with his sentence but with the fact he didn’t kill someone.
Didn't he get into some sort of nobber situation while on holiday a few years ago?
That all went very quiet....

A fine that he probably earns in an hour's salary. What a wan**r.
Fines aren't very effective for people with a lot of money (and, for a whole lot of other reasons, those with little/none). The disqualification will hit him harder and 56 days is the maximum.

Due to be heard in March. The Greek legal system can run very slowly...

I'm not sure which will cause more damage travelling at 85 mph, the Range Rover or his head?

'A legal representative appeared on behalf of the 31-year-old, who did not attend the hearing'

That shows utter contempt. And any fine should be in line with a salary.

I'm not going to get righteous about speeding as we all will have done it. But folk shouldn't treat the law with contempt. He should get fined for stupidity, no-one gets away with speeding like that in an area such as he was.

Same as most former Brighton players who got caught speeding to be honest

Lots of people don't turn up for sentencing in motoring matters but I was always told it's good practice to have them in if you're disqualifying so there can be no doubt that they know*. I imagine that having his solicitor there was deemed sufficient by the sentencing bench.

*In America (and maybe other third-world countries) if you are disqualified you can still drive to/from work; I heard from a colleague who had one in for disqualification and gave him the "you must not drive ANY motor vehicle" pronouncement, he was asked "I get drive to work rights though, don't I ?" and on being told no asked if he could ride a motor bike. When he asked how he was supposed to get to work the answer was "That's your problem"

I thought that fines were in line with wages now. If he's is on £10 million a year, his £1052 fine would be the equivalent of me receiving a fine of £6.30.

He should be made to re-take his driving test (all drivers who lose their license should be) at the end of his ban.

Pretty clever way of telling us you're on about 60k per year.

Fines are in line with wages. There are Bands A, B & C representing 50%, 100% and 150% of weekly income.*
However, there are also fine levels from 1 to 5 and speeding has a maximum of level 3 (4 on a motorway) which is £1000.**

So to take it at face value from the guidelines, 85mph in a 50 limit is Band C fine and 6 points OR 7-56 days disqualification.
His wages are about £190k per week so the fine is £1000 (the maximum allowable) and he is entitled to a one-third discount for pleading guilty at the first opportunity (everyone is entitled to this) so £666. I don't know, but I guess they've gone high on the disqualification to make the punishment as onerous on him as a fine would be on less wealthy offenders.
