The script was, so i'm led to believe, that Wiggins would win easily, he didn't because the Aussies altered the script. Fairly unpredictable wouldn't you say seeing as the bookies had him red hot favourite to win.

wiggins! You are most certainly mistaken as to the script

No.

Cav should have won.
The strongest team was Team GB.

They rode on the front all day, controlling the race.

On the last lap, at the top of Box Hill, a group went clear.
Nobody else helped bring that group back as it would add Cav's victory.

So a Russian won followed by a Columbian because all the other strong nations didn't believe their man could beat Cav.
Proper cutting off nose to spite face.

Sport eh, unpredictable.

Always disliked the woman

CYCLING
Labour deputy leader Harriet Harman has written to Tour de France director Christian Prudhomme calling for a women's race at the event.

Harman wants a women's race at next year's Tour, which starts in Leeds. British cyclist Emma Pooley was one of four riders who published a petition to resurrect the event, last held in 2009.

"After the success of the Olympics, women's cycling should not be allowed to slip back into the shadows," Harman wrote in her letter to Prudhomme.

Absolutely silly waste of time woman!

Why ? Are there not some very talented female riders ? It's 2013 not 1913.

What other annual sporting event gets 12 million spectators?

I always wonder about the claim for spectators. Firstly, I assume most of those that go don't have to buy a ticket. Secondly don't a very high proportion follow the tour around so they are counted as double. A bit like saying that BHA have over 600k of paying customers!

I'm probably going to get flamed, but cycling exists on the numbers of people that are going to turn up at the side of the road, at the start, and at the finish points. I don't think at this moment in time it would attract the crowds or the sponsorship needed. You need both for this to happen. May be if it followed the mens race a day after, any other time I can't really see it working.

2 things need to happen.

a) Women need to ride Le Tour as discussed.
It's The Shop Window and women's cycling should then flourish into other events most of you lot haven't heard of but do have equal standing within the sport.

ii) All of the top 20 pro tour teams should have a women's team, of some description, as part of their charter, for a period of say 5 years.
If Women's cycling is then unable to stand on it own 2 feet, then no point flogging a dead horse.

Serious question, how are they going to fund a Womens team when most are struggling now to fund the Mens team.

Edit: I have no idea how that picture attached to this post.

Women's cycling on the biggest stage should/would attract it's own sponsorship.
A women's team doesn't have to be twenty plus riders.
The support staff are already in place.
The idea has been taken up by a few teams already, Garmin and GreenEdge to name 2.
There are already x amount of women's pro teams, who I'm sure would come to an arrangement with men's teams.
A team costs several million euros to run, women's cycling is running run on a shoestring, so money is there.

That's off the top of my head, back to work now.

While on the subject of money.
All Pro Tour teams currently have to contribute 250,000 euros annually, towards anti doping to get a Pro Tour license.
I think there are 20 Pro Tour teams. (it might be 18)

Harriet Harperson is definitely one of the best political nicknames in my lifetime.

Carry on.

I expect she just wants a women's race, not on par with the men. One of the gents who manages TDF said on R5 that a women's race with realistic stages is inevitable.

Not quite sure the reason for the anti HH vitriol. Could it possibly be because she's the anathema of the working class tory: a middle class (female) socialist. perchance? ;-)
