People like to dwell on the shaky games he had, I prefer to remember how he was one our of best and most consistent players in that five-match unbeaten run that kept us up right at the end of 2004-5. He knew he was going at that stage but still played his best for us.

Anyone else remember this?

What I always found bizarre is the double standards meted out on here to both Harding and Hinshelwood, both these fine young players made plenty of mistakes (much as El Abd has this season too). Yet it was only Harding that gets fried by NSC for them. Very odd.

Exactly - although he had that dodgy spell over Christmas, he was fantastic towards the end, especially in that crucial match against Rotherham, when he completely shut Campbell-Ryce out of the game. Sadly, though, because he was a "technical" player, and not a blood-and-thunder El-Abd/Virgo/Oatway type, people got on his back and accused him of giving less than 100%; far from the truth.

He was never terrible I thought just too weedy and got pushed off the ball easily... which granted, is fairly important at this level.
