Excellent piece in today's Times. "The most satisfied people are those who toil in farming, forestry and fishing despite unsociable hours and lack of holidays".

Agree. Some of my most enjoyable memories are working on my Dad's farm when I was a teenager. Fresh air and manual labour. A heady combination.

They're all outside, and a bit of a vocation rather than just a bog standard job.

I rekon if they'd asked any professional groundsman or greenkeeper they'd have got a similar answer, and I bet they don't work nearly as hard as some bloke on a trawler

Certainly, loving my job and most days looking forward to getting to work - makes things a lot easier. I can't imagine having a job I didn't like. The thought of going in to something every day that I hated doesn't bear thinking about.

I remember a saying from years ago "If you have a job that you enjoy, you never have to work a day in your life" or something like that.

While I agree, hard work can produce didvidends and self esteem and indeed I indulge in it whenever I can,if you believe this propogandist claptrap I urge you to read The Rise and Fall of The Third Reich by William Shirer.

It's office politics/ management stupidity that ruin many a job that could be fun. Mine ought to be a good job, and but for the above it would be.

Got a mate whose a carpenter. And come to think of it... He's pretty happy all the time.

When I regularly go to the gym and keep busy during the week in and out of work I enjoy my weekend and life more too. And yes i also enjoy my job although it's office based.
